Was never a fan of Warrant, but I have always dug "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
It's obvious from that song alone the man was waaay above "Cherry Pie."

I can't help always thinking WHY? I mean your moderately famous, you got some cash, whats the deal? I mean all in all life does not suck that bad and if it did/does for you take that fame, that notorioty, that cash and do something constructive. ? I just don't get it.
That said, 47 is just WAY TOO YOUNG to pass.
RIP JL RIP
I think people have a hard time not feeling invincible when they have money and fame.
People as depressed as Jani Lane do not feel invincible.
i wasnt saying that in his case - just giving my opinion to martinsane's question of why moderately famous people die so young sometimes.
Depressed over what? I'm curious. Writing a hit song even though "he" thought it was crap. Selling millions of albums? Touring the world over and over? Fans up the wazzoo? More women than you can shack a stick at, amazing memories that not many get to have, 4 kids... Sure the era was over and the glam ship sailed, but fads come and go al the time man.
And sheesh, instead of drinking yourself into a coma, do a couple hundred milligrams of zoloft a day, hang out with Dr. Drew, go to the spa, get a massage 3 times a day, workout, go to the movies with your kids...There are a million things you can do to beat your demons, I know I do it every day and I am certainly not as recognizable as JL. EVERY man and women no matter how "drugged"out they are can make a choice to "heal" themselves, sure it may be difficult, but it CAN BE DONE.
Like I said in my first post, its just a waste and it frustrates me to see anyone, let alone famous folks just waste their lives and don't get me started on the impact it has on their family and friends...
Just saying.

What does fame have to do with it? Doesn't sound like you know a thing about "demons" or depression. Everyone knows it can be overcome, but it's not as easy as that, is it?

RIP, another one who died too young. Though, also another one I'm not extremely surprised by. That lifestyle is a killer, there.

Kurt Cobain was rich, successful and had a newborn daughter in his life but he could not overcome the drugs and depression... Only Jani knew what he was going through. He probably drank to drown whatever pain he had in his life.

This is just a massively naive over-simplification of the struggle that those who are addicted, depressed or otherwise tackling personal demons go through.

Sad indeed. I was fortunate enough to see Jani twice in recent years, once during his last stint with Warrant (2009), and then solo in 2010 (both times with Shiney). Jani was a great talent AND had great passion (when he was sober). He will truly be missed by his fans, family and friends. Here is a video I took when Shiney and I saw Warrant (w/ Great White) in June 2009. Got to meet him (and the rest of Warrant) after the show. Janie (of everyone in the band) seemed especially interested in meeting his fans. I posted this video on MYSPACE the next day, and he promptly "borrowed" it for his MYSPACE. Enjoy!

RIP.
Was never a big fan, though I enjoyed what I heard. I do remember watching an interview on VH1 a couple of years ago where he talked about his hatred of being the "Cherry Pie guy." I'm sure his depression was more deeply seeded than that, but being labeled a trivial afterthought couldn't have helped. Not when you were as talented a songwriter as Jani was. Depression is a very complex thing and unique to each person who suffers from it. It is very naive to make comments like, "He had so much, how can he be depressed?" The two things have NOTHING to do with each other. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I'm with you. Fame and fortune aren't all that's necessary to live a rich, fulfilling life. Depression really is convoluted, and you NEVER really know what's going through a person's mind.

Some perspective from Sebastian Bach:
Quote :
"People have been asking me about Jani Lane and I really don't know what to say. Picturing him by himself in a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills with a bottle of vodka and a bottle of pills is so typical of what a rock musicians life actually is. It is a life marked by extremes. Extreme attention from people you don't know, while all the work and travel takes you away from those you actually do know. Playing to thousands of people and then going back to your hotel room and shutting the door. When the door shuts... the quiet is the exact opposite of the volume of the concert. The solitude of the empty hotel room becomes the diametric parallel of the adulation of strangers. For some, the bottle of vodka or whatever becomes a friend that is always there for you while others come and go.
"Yes, I have felt these emotions myself.
"If you see me going head over heels over a girl, it's because all I have ever wanted is to have a girl to love and share my life with, and for the one I love to be with me wherever I'm at, travel with me to distant locales and stay in nice kick-ass hotel suites and have fun and sing and dance and see the world. But so far this is a fantasy. Just like Jani, I spend most of my time alone in a hotel room dreaming of a girl I love who is somewhere else. I bet Jani Lane felt exactly what I feel. How could he not?
"I remember decades ago being invited to Jani's house for a barbeque, which we went to. But Jani didn't show up. So I spent the afternoon with Jani's dad cooking burgers and steaks and having a wonderful day with his family.
"My condolences to his family and especially Jani's children who now only have memories of their dad to hold on to. That is truly heartbreaking.
"Let this be yet another lesson to tell someone some kind words sometimes... before it's too late... while they are still alive.
"I can guarantee Jani Lane would not have anticipated everyone coming out of the woodwork extolling the life and times of Jani Lane. Which is why he probably died alone. In a hotel room. With his only real friend...that killed him in the end."

It's very sad that Jani couldn't beat his demons. I always hoped that he would. Because whether you like Warrant or not he could write a great, catchy song and was tremendously talented. RIP Jani.

Thought this was kinda weird/interesting...
Quote :
According to TMZ.com, a note saying "I am Jani Lane" was found in the former WARRANT singer's pocket on the day he died. However, Jani, who had no official ID on him when his body was discovered at a Los Angeles motel on August 11, isn't believed to have written the note himself.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ.com that the note contained a phone number for a person close to Jani, and police contacted that person after Jani's body was discovered.
Investigators have confirmed to TMZ.com that the note was written by one of Jani's friends who had placed a similar note on Jani in the past.
According to the site, members of Jani's family are furious over the fact that the person who wrote the note didn't help Lane seek treatment for the singer's substance-abuse problem instead of simply tucking a piece of paper into Jani's pants.
It's unclear if the same person who wrote the note also checked Jani into the Comfort Inn since it appears the room where Jani was discovered was not purchased by Jani himself.

Maybe his sfincter friend should have done more then write a note, but the reality Jani Lane's death is nobody's fault but his own, it sucks but unless you want help and are serious about getting clean, then it is a waste of time trying to help a person who has no desire to be helped.
