I was going to say that from what I've heard online, they still sound great. But then I double-checked...
Um...was Mark Slaughter filling in?

Well, they have a new one out, but it's re-recordings of "classics."

That irritates me when bands do that ... as if they can't come up with anything new and creative anymore.

That's actually not 'real' bad. Especially considering how hot it was and that sometimes the live sound doesn't do bands justice. I thought it came across pretty well actually. Sure, Tom doesn't have the vox he did at 22, but hey - he still sounds like Tom!

He sounds a pitch or two lower now, like he can't hit the higher notes after the surgery.

Oh yeah, I guess he will never be the same after that. I still give him credit for pushing on. That takes guts. And he doesn't sound half-bad. Geoff Tate's voice is not the same either ... but he controls it and uses it well regardless and I appreciate that in people. Determination.

It has more to do with control. They can't get any more copies of thier major label albums to sell at shows. For years they would play the hits in concert but you could only buy new albums at the merch table. So they re-recorded many of the hits and old songs they play live so fans can at least buy the songs they just heard the band play. Plus this allows for licensing directly from the band for things like video games and TV...

well i think its a shame given the talent Firehouse has that they are re-recording instead of doing new material.
I know its economics but their post debut material is by far their strongest.

The vast majority of thier fan base doesn't care, sadly. They want DTMB and LOAL..

Exactly! I can't tell you how many shows that I've been to over the past few years, where the crowd (VERBALLY) lets the band know that they only want to hear their old material. It is just SAD.

Cool pics. Tom Kiefer hasn't aged a bit from the looks of it. It's been years since I last saw them, but I don't ever recall Tom playing a sax. Nifty.
