- I'm much more into Depeche Mode today than I was back when. I had always dug a few of their songs but never really gave the albums a chance. For that style of music their albums are really solid. Big fan of Some Great Reward and Violator. Also, the song Somebody just may be the greatest love ballad ever.
A few that come to mind for me...
P. Galore/Boss Hog/ Jon Spencer Blues Explosion or as my girl calls it "profane noise". Can't say why I love all three's output but I do. And I'm not someone who typically liked anything else from that art-noise scene.
Laibach Yes I love Laibach. A lot. What can I say "Life Is Life".
Nitro I thought and still think those two Nitro albums are killer. And they've held up for me better than a bunch of other stuff I loved more or that others love. I agree "Some Great Reward" and "Violator" are two of their best! I also love "Playing the Angel", "Speak and Spell", "Ultra" and "Black Celebration" almost equally. The only album I don't like is none! haha. Though their weakest moment was probably "A Broken Frame" when all is said and done. Though I still like it, it has it's share of filler. Same with "Construction Time Again" really.

I do like that "barely breathing" song. Something about it reminds me of later Level 42. Oh yea, Level 42 love all their albums

Agreed, a lot of people tend to brush them of as some more generic nu-metal but I just love their groove. Also, I know Manowar have a lot a haters but once you get past this silly "brothers of metal" lark they're a great traditional metal band and a lot of fun.

| I could fill the Grand Canyon with a list like this. Since this thread leaves it open for all genres. I'll list the genres I like that "true" metal fans despise:
Light rock AOR Country (pre-90s) Oldies Alternative Country 80s Pop R&B (pre-90s) Old school rap (mid-90s and earlier) Orchestral music (Classical, Baroque, Celtic, Soundtracks, etc.)

| Disturbed. I know lots of people who listen to them, and most of them don't listen to much metal. People who listen to metal usually don't like them. Not really sure why | |

| Yeah, Disturbed is a good band IMHO. Each album they have released warrants creative merit.
Not to mention - they have a great stage show.
And ... they are probably the closest to 'true' metal of any of the Alternative Metal bands.

| Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Exciter, Destruction, etc.
I also like: The Blues Magoos, The Doors, Montrose, Golden Earring, April Wine, and most people I know have made fun of me for liking them.
All are bands I have loved since I was in high school, and people in my town hated them and ridiculed me for them then, and still do. Buncha LOSERS.

Much like Boston or AC/DC, each album is pretty repetitive of itself...nothing wrong with that, I guess. - Quote :

If you mean "standing relatively still in front of giant video screens", then yeah. - Quote :

Alter Bridge is MUCH closer to actual Heavy Metal than Disturbed...although bits of Believe, if the vocals were replaced and guitar solos more noodly, could be Power Metal. _________________ FINAL SIGN

I don't listen to them a whole lot, but I feel they get hated on a lot. Example: This thread. 3 of my bandmates love Disturbed; they all went to Music As A Weapon V, and they were supposed to go to Mayhem this year, but they couldn't make it. Personally, when I got into metal, I liked Disturbed a lot, then they kind of fell out of my favor, but now I feel like they've grown on me. They're fairly talented, and they're definitely true to their fans, so I can at the very least appreciate them. I do, however, love their song The Night and quite a few of their other songs are usually on my playlist for the day. They're not bad by me. Though, at times, I see why people say they're phony, like in the other thread: they do talk a WHOLE lot about metal. Not so much in their lyrics (which I always thought was kind of silly, but whatever), but on stage and in interviews. It's a bit... well, it seems like they're trying to say they're the epitome of metal and its current champions. I definitely wouldn't go so far to say that, but whatever works for them It all comes down to tastes, I suppose. I respect any band that puts time and effort into their music (if they don't do that, F*CK 'EM! ), but that doesn't mean I like everything.

| Mercyful Fate. I've had a hard time finding anyone who can stand King Diamond's voice... I also like Depeche Mode. Their early singles were pretty poppy, but their later work became darker and more mature. I'm not way familiar with their discography, but most everything I've heard from Black Celebration - onwards has been pretty good. Violator is a really good album. I have a soft spot for '80s pop as well as some Dark Wave / gothic rock like Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, etc and other "sappy" stuff most metalheads rip on. Disturbed are one of the few nu-metal / alt-metal / whatever-it's-called bands I can put up with. Dave Draiman is one of the better singers in mainstream rock, I think, and their last few albums do have a more metal edge to them than most similar bands. I think they've improved over the years. With that said I rarely listen to more than two or three songs at a time. I also like Rammstein. | |

I like Stone Temple Pilots... Yea, there's a few of us here, but mostly they're dismissed pretty quickly. Another one I just thought of was Enuff Z'nuff. Once they toned down the glam crap and peace symbols and just focused on the music, they put out some killer Cheap Trick/Beatles inspired albums. They have quite an extensive discography at this point and not a bad one in the bunch in my awesome opinion. Sure, some are better than others, but none of them are outright terrible or unlistenable. They've found a sound and stuck with it, musical tastes and public opinions be damned. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was.
