| I have always been a casual Megadeth fan...but never a huge fan. Most of that is because, growing up, Dave's voice never hit me right.
But I took my son & a buddy of his to Mayhem Fest last night and after seeing Megadeth live, I have to say I was very impressed.
One thing that struck me, and I don't know how long he's been this way, but Dave was very, very polite and appreciative. No cussing, no put-on attitude, no tough act...just "thank you", "we love you guys", lots of smiles, etc. He gave away a guitar too...I think (can't really recall) the one he played "Sweating Bullets" on...the crew just picked a girl out of the audience, brought her on stage and he took off the guitar and handed it to her and gave her a hug. Kinder, gentler Dave in the house.
Musically, the band tore it up! Dave and Broderick were on fire, with Broderick staying true to the solos (they sounded familiar enough to me, anyway).
Setlist:
Trust (opener) Hangar 18 Wake Up Dead Sweating Bullets Headcrusher Public Enemy #1 (new song) Symhpony Of Destruction Holy Wars (The Punishment Due) Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? (with a Vic Rattlehead guy coming on stage)
They only played about an hour...but it was awesome.
Machine Head was fantastic, but didn't play anything I know (I only know the first 2 albums).
Godsmack (while energetic and having good stage presence) was boring...the same one-note/two-note "riffs" and grooves in every song. I do like "I Stand Alone" though, which they closed with. The drum battle between the singer and Shannon Larkin was cool too...played bits of Metallica, AC/DC, Rush, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, etc.
Disturbed was painfully boring...so fake and monotonous...and people ate it up...that band is so full of smurf poo.
My kid and his friend dug the side stage...All Shall Perish and Suicide Silence mainly. Luckily, my kid has me as a dad so he was also into Megadeth & Machine Head (he knows more Machine Head than I do).
I did get to see Kingdom Of Sorrow which was cool just to see Kirk Weindstein (beard of doom) play live...

| Sounds like an excellent show, I like Disturbed and Godsmack but not a major fan of either one, I have to agree Disturbed seems kind of phony to me. | |

| Cool. Megadeth is a Top 5 band for me and I've never seen them live.
What was the order in which the bands played? I'm sure Disturbed closed but did Megadeth play before Godsmack?

| Cool. Glad to hear Dave is still tearin' it up out there and showin' all them young'ins how to do it. I've only seen Megadeth once when they opened for Judas Priest years ago (1990, RUST IN PEACE tour) and that show turned me from a casual Megadeth fan into an all out fanboy. They blew Priest off the stage that night, which at that time I didn't think was humanly possible. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

That may true, but I don't give a rat's ass, Megadeth will blow these chumps out of the water, Godsmack have never even released an album anywhere near as good as Megadeth's worst album 'Risk' Disturbed should be opening for Right Said Fred not headlining over Megadeth, and Mega Dave had a book on New York Time's Best Seller List, where Disturbed's fans can barely color inside the lines!!! OK I am done with my rant.

OK I am done with my rant. It wasn't Megadeth's tour. Disturbed owns the rights to "Mayhem Fest", so they get to headline. Plus, I'm sure it was like a "no pressure" summer vacation for Mustaine since he's not responsible for backline, PA, paying the other bands or anythig else (like on Gigantour)...he just shows up, plays an hour, and heads back to the hotel. I will say, the lack of respect for Megadeth some of those Godsmack-loving douchebags were showing was pissing me off. One dude, while Megadeth was playing, sat with his back to them talking to his bored looking girlfriend. He was probably 30 and wearing a Godsmack shirt (which means he was probably a teenager when he got into Godsmack, which is fine)...even called Machine Head "Motorhead" at one point...I seriously wanted to smack him. Ha! But, I just chalked it up to him being a different generation and me being old.

Geez, you're a better man than I am. I would've heckled that mo-mo mercilessly for the rest of the show. - manny wrote:

| Something else funny: During the Godsmack show, the singer was trying to get the crowd fired up and said (paraphrased): "I want you to get fired up! Like back in the old days! Like back in 1985 when bands like Pantera were tearing up audiences all over the country!!"Pantera was touring nationally in 1985?? Douchebag... _________________ FINAL SIGN

I am soooooo glad I wasn't there. I would've thrown a bottle at his head and I'd be in jail now. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Disturbed is still a huge band. Like Avenged Sevenfold, I don't think they really burn up the singles charts, but their albums always debut to huge numbers. So I knew they would close. Figured it could go either way with Godsmack & Megadeth since Godsmack's star began to fall a long time ago. | |

I also commend you for your ability to sit through the rest of the crap. Ugh!

| That's a nice, albeit short, setlist by Megadeth. Some day I'll get to see them in concert (hopefully). All those other bands I couldn't care less about except maybe Godsmack. I have their first 2 releases and they aren't too bad. | |

| I've seen Megadeth live 3 times, and they have only been good once. They always put on a great concert, musically. But Dave's voice is so hit or miss. But when he's on, it's awesome! _________________ | |

Like I said, they're on the radio all the time...old and new...I can't ride to or from work (on the days I forget my iPod or CDs) and not hear a Godsmack song...that "Crying Like A B!+ch" song is annoyingly everywhere...

| I have one Disturbed album and I like it, but I have no idea why they are so huge. Saw one of their live clips on Youtube, and the singer comes off as a bit of phoney, at least to me he did and if you read his interviews, you would think he single handly saved metal.
I have two or three Godsmack albums my son gave me, when he decided he did not like them anymore, and the albums are ok, and enjoyable, but it is a mystery to me why they are so huge, my son who grew up in household filled with classic rock, etc, has become a snob about music in his old age of 19 years old and thinks most modern bands are crap, including bands he use to love such as Godsmack etc

| Strangely, Megadeth were extremely disappointing at the Mayhem fest I attended. Played almost exactly the same set as you described, and frankly it just seemed boring...and personally I think Dave's voice has gotten intolerable. Godsmack and Disturbed (neither of which I'm much of a fan of) performed much better, I thought. I don't care if they're not great musicians, but they know how to put on a show. | |

| I am only a casual fan of Megadeth, but I saw them live last summer in Albuquerque for the first time. It was downright HORRIBLE!!! I've seen Disturbed twice and each time they blew Megadeth's performance that night away!!!
But I'm not a fan of Megadeth though - and that concert did nothing but confirm that to me. Gladly, Slayer came on and saved the night afterward.
