Maybe not record sales exactly, but there does have to be some popularity attached to it as well. The general populace has to recognize at least 2 of the members for them to be considdered "super" don't you think? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| Not exactly supergroups but both feature multiple big names in metal:
Avantasia Ayreon Probot Northern Kings
Supergroups by the accepted definition:
Liquid Tension Experiment Platypus S.O.D. Asia Transatlantic
In Christian rock you have The Lost Dogs (imo better than either The Choir, The 77's, Daniel Amos, or Adam Again)
And of course in country you have The Highwaymen (Cash, Willie, Kristopherson, & Jennings)
For AOR fans you can include (lots of people around here would not listen to these even if you paid them):
Damn Yankees Bad English Place Vendome Sunstorm Brazen Abbot Mr. Big Badlands

- Place Vendome
Sunstorm Brazen Abbot I would say these don't count mainly because they were "put together" projects to showcase the singers involved (in the case of Place Vendome and Sunstorm) or the guitarist's songs (Brazen Abbot)...not actual bands. _________________ FINAL SIGN

Yes I agree, The Firm had Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers, and they were considered a 'super group', Chris Slade had played Uriah Heep among others, and Tony Franklin was an unknown as far as I know, neither Slade or Franklin were household names.

| Let's pretend that we assemble a supergroup of 80's titans:
Dave Mustaine, Gary Holt, Kerry King, Frank Bello & Lars.
These guys are known to metalheads...but to the general public they are nobodies, people might recognize the band names, but not the guys themselves. Their record sales really aren't that impressive put up against your standard pop artist. Taylor Swift laughs at their sales figures.
This WOULD be considered a supergroup however.

And we would all make fun of Lars as the weak link in the band..........

Place Vendome and Sunstorm also feature members of PC69, that's why I included them.

Traveling Wilburys for the win yep. I know they just wanted to jam but both of those albums are excellent. The way they harmonized together was something i wasnt sure they could accomplish when they said bob dylan and roy Orbison sang together... _________________

It is funny you said this, I have not listened to those Traveling Wilbury albums in 20 years, on a whim played their videos on Youtube and enjoyed the hell out of it, and agree great harmonizing
