Any OMEN fans? I was sent a copy of "The Curse/Nightmares" and it's pretty darned good classic heavy metal. Has some elements of early speed metal as well.
My first exposure to Omen was "Escape to Nowhere" and I was less than impressed. Actually, I never gave 'em the time of day after that one. However, after checking out their "Teeth of Hydra-Best Of Omen" CD, I realized that "Escape" was very different from the rest of their catalog.
Any other fans? Favorites? Least favorites?

Of course i am a OMEN fan, not only the North American OMEN were great but also the legendary Hungarian OMEN. Anyway, my fave OMEN album is BATTLE CRY and after WARNING FROM DANGER.

Yeah that "Escape To Nowhere" album was less than stellar, makes a nice drink coaster though. At least the singer on that one went on to do a pretty decent job on Annihilator's "Never Neverland".I think that the Omen' compilation you mentioned would be a good place to start for anyone who hasn't heard or is unfamiliar with these guys.

I'm an Omen fan.I Like all their releases but the weakest of them all is probably Re-Opening the Gates just for the fact of a style change (similar in style to Vicious Rumors after the unfortunate death of Carl Albert). It's not a bad album, just in a style I don't like as much. They completely rebounded with their follow-up , Eternal Black Dawn.

Yes, they are available. Metal Blade have released the Omen catalog on CD several times.

I am presently on an Omen kick. I have picked up them all except Escape To Nowhere, (WHICH I WANT!) and love the band. I had the Teeth of the Hydra best of as a teen and liked it and heard Escape at that time and liked it. But I picked them all up over the last couple of weeks. I like them all although the only consistant ones are the early 80's releases, but there isn't a turd in the lot. Despite what some say about Reopening The Gates, its not a bad album, just different. Just like 007 stated earlier. Eternal Black Dawn is cool, I just miss JD Kimball, alot. Although, the lyrics kick booty on that album. But like I said, I'm still looking for Escape to Nowhere! Anyone???

anyone ever see the dvd they released with their boxset? Was it any good? If it's typical bootleg material than i'm just going to buy all their albums instead of getting the boxset.

this was my first tattoo i made myself when i was 18 during the boring days of army...
nowadays omen and phantom-x are the biggest jokes in metal....i wished kenny powell never "reopened the gates"...after all these were his sayings when he formed step child in early 90's: that he will never formed the mighty OMEN again....he sucks.... OMEN were 4 not only him...last year i wanted to beat him up when he played in my country but the securities threw me out of the hall.....thank god i never paid for that ticket(neither i was intended to do so at first place)....and it's a pain in the heart seeing these jokes playing shows in europe all the time while other greater and more qualitive bands are still facing hard times in US....
metal mongers to the very end metal music the power we defend(if you still know what's metal, sucker kenny....)

I remember I bought Battle Cry way back in 1984(?) mainly because of the album cover. At one time I had their first 3 albums, liked 'em alot, but as I recall not much a big fan of "Escape". I havent heard anything by them since.

How odd ! I received this week Omen’s best / and Annihilator “ never, never land “ CDs. So to see the third post - opened my eyes. The singer for Omen - says J.D Kimball - haunting sound / classic top notch old school. His vocals sound like Q 5 singer.

I have the first 3 and play them all pretty regularly. "Warning of Danger" is epic to my ears and gets the most spins.

I still need to get Escape to Nowhere and Reopening the Gates. Not the easiest albums to come across. I will be in Europe next March, and will do some digging in some record shops during my spare time. Hopefully will find something there.

Omen was one of my first introductions to Metal , back in 1990 when I just borrowed "Warning of Danger" from a friend and loved what I heard . If this band is underground now , Imagine back in 1990 . Anyways , I tend to consider them sorta of 80´s Power Metal , sounds sometimes (the classic material) like a mixture between Iron Maiden (Dianno Era) and Running Wild .

"Reopening the Gates" is a great album , if you think it like an album Pantera could have done on the 90´s . But it doesn´t sound like classic Omen , but I like it .
