If you like Thundersteel, you might also want to try The Privilege Of Power.

The classic discs I believe are "Fire Down Under", "Restless Breed" and "Born in America".... some would probably include 'Narita' as well. They have different singers on these discs, but they rock.... I can't venture an opinion after 'Thundersteel' because that was the last lp I heard by them. However their material has been highly recommended by others on this site....

That album is called Nightbreaker, Eyesore.

Anyways, from the material I've heard, Thundersteel (the one CD of theirs I own) is their best. Of the ones I've downloaded, Fire Down Under is really good, too.

Fire Down Under is their definative classic album (you can't really argue with that), Thundersteel was good but it was hardly the original band and they were jumping on the melodic speed metal/post NWOBHM bandwagon instead of being innovative like Fire Down Under.

Actually they were hitching the horses to that bandwagon. Thundersteel is widely recognized as one of the definitive albums of that genre.

The only album I own is the phenomenal "Thundersteel" and I absolutely love it. Had the cassette since it came out in '88 and just recently scored a copy on cd brand new for $7.99. 🤘

Soldier opened for Riot on the Thundersteel tour in San Francisco.... Unfortunatley I couldn't get past Mark Reale's hair implants..... I liked that album, but FDU, BIA, RB.... those discs rock with so much energy...

It was American Heavy Metal that Blows You Sky High..... at least that's what Capitols magazine ads said about FDU.....

I thought Thundersteel's true highlight was 'Blood Streets'. The production left me a little dry....

How 'bout a little Riot video....

Here's a clip of Classic Riot performing 'Outlaw' the quality isn't great, but to hear and see Guy Speranza.... hard core fans only..

"Thundersteel" and "Restless Breed" both crank ! Can't go wrong with either one of those Riot' discs.Rhett Forrester (R.I.P.) the singer on "Restless Breed" was murdered back in the early nineties, from what ive heard he was apparently carjacked and wouldn't give up his ride....a very tragic ending.

The awesome "Thundersteel" is the only Riot disc I own... I have been meaning to investigate some more of their massive catalog for quite some time now, but have never gotten round to it...

Riot. Now THERE'S a G-R-E-A-T band!

Fire Down Under would be on any of my all-time best lists, it's simply a classic album from beginning to end. My other favorite is the Riot - Live EP from 1983 w/Rhett performing songs from Restless Breed that just obliterate their studio counterparts. I've still got that one on vinyl.

The albums from the original band are all work seeking out: Rock City, Narita, FDU, Restless Breed, Born In America.

Thundersteel was a real shocker when that one came out. Firstly because I never expected to see another album by Riot, secondly because it sounded like a completely different band (of course it basically was with Reale being the only surviving member). But after the initial shock I was completely sucked in by the excellent songwriting and performances. Looking back almost 20 years later it has become a bona fide classic.

The Privilege Of Power was also quite a shock when it initially came out (horn section, etc) and I didn't pay much attention to it at the time. But I picked it up again recently and was pleasantly surprised. While the songs aren't quite as good this time around it's still a very good album that holds up well over time. Best track is the Al DiMeola cover "Race With The Devil On A Spanish Highway", probably the best combination of metal & fusion that I've heard.

I have sampled some tracks from later albums but just couldn't get past the vocalists....

Riot was a band I dismissed in the 80's, don't know why I had "Born in
America" on vinyl and later got rid of it, I regret that know.
In the last few years I rediscovered the band I don't know why I
dismissed them, I have slowly began rebuilding my Riot collection and
two I own "Thundersteel" and "Sons of Society" are solid albums and are
now a band I will be exploring further.

I first heard Riot from a tape my friend Gary gave me. It had a lot of great bands on it (first time I heard Flotsam and Jetsam as well), but I had to ask him "Who does that song 'Swords and the Killers'?" lol!

I was not going to cl;ick on any videos, but I HAD to see that song live. 🤘

Fire Down Under is THE classic from Riot, don't let anyone tell you different, but nothing is bad (well, I have a tough time with some parts of Brethren of the Long House, but it has some good songs too).

Thundersteel and Nightbreaker complete the core essential MUST HAVE from Riot IMO. Shine On is a good live cd that you can usually find cheap. Good introduction. Live in Japan is pretty good as well, and doesn't go for much....

I still have not heard Narita or Rock City.... someday.... Sad

Swords And The Killers? You sure it wasn't Swords & Tequila?

The best IMO are Rock City & Fire Down Under!

Yes, it was Swords and Tequila, but when I only had the recorded tape to go off of, I misinterpreted it. lol!

Gary set me straight on the song's real title and I ordered the cassette immediately. 🤘

Rock City

I'm dying to hear that one. Never have found it, or Narita either.

Rock City is OK. The production kind of kills it. Narita is great, but kinda pricey on CD.

I remember seeing this band's albums in the stores back in the early 80s and wondering what the seal head on the sumo wrestler's body had to do with anything. I ended up buying "Restless Breed" and going home and playing it. I thought it was a great record I then went out and bought everything else I could find over the next few years. I talked my brother into buying "Narita" when I didn't have any money then I ended up with it my collection later on, he never did get into music the way I did.

The Rhett Forester CD "Assume the Position" is also a good CD.

Thundersteel is tha last release by these guys that I bought but I may have to look into some of their more recent music.

I read somewhere that they are supposed to reissue Restless Breed with the Riot Live EP added as bonus tracks...can anyone confirm that?

They have. Mine has some Rhett live tracks. Don't know if that's what you mean.

What label is that reissue on?

Here's a photo of the Riot Live EP with the track listing on the front.
