| The only ones I'd even consider are KISS' Alive I & II. Lives albums don't do it for me and those 2 (plus Alive III) are the only ones I own. | |

You don't know what you are missing. There is something special about these albums. They capture a moment in time, a raw energy and that rock and roll spirit that cannot be capture in the studio. This is especially true of the 70's bands IMO. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

Is the 2 disc "complete concert" version of this one worth getting? I used to have the single disc version some time ago, but ditched it. I saw the complete version in the used bins at FYE the other night and was thinking about picking it up. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I can't vote for a live album if it's not really live. Too much studio trickery going on to consider many of these to be more than studio albums, as much as I may enjoy them.

| Good list James B. Some good ones there I neglected, especially Rainbow "On Stage". However, I think I like the "Live In Munich 1977" release even more.

Rumors have dogged 'Unleased In the East' and 'Live and Dangerous' of being overdubbed to the point that some of gone to calling Priest's live album 'Unleased in the Studio', in the case of Judas Priest, they have always denied this. I am very sure that AC/DC's If You Want Blood, Live Bootleg by Aerosmith and Nugent's Double Live Gonzo were not touched up in the studio | |

I am very sure that AC/DC's If You Want Blood, Live Bootleg by Aerosmith and Nugent's Double Live Gonzo were not touched up in the studio Kiss have denied massive re-recording on Alive as well... According to Gene Simmons own autobiography Kiss and Make-Up, "There have always been rumors that the Alive! record was substantially reworked in the studio. Its not true. We did touch up vocal parts and fix some of the guitar solos, but we didn't have the time or money to completely rework the recordings. What we wanted, and what we got, was proof of the band's rawness and power." (p.111)Considering that "Alive" was basically to fulfill the band's contract, the label was losing their shirts on the band at the time and the album wasn't expected to do as well as it did, I don't really see why they would spend a lot of time and money on editing, re-recording, etc. However, Eddie Kramer, who mixed and produced the album says he does remember the band fixing stuff in the studio. He actually made the claim that the drums and the audience were actually the only thing "live" on the recording. Either way, I don't give a rip! As long as it sounds good, who friggin' cares if the band fixes stuff. If it's broke, fix it. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| That fact is forgotten on KISS, that they did not have the money to spend to fix those live albums, as a matter fact other then Deep Purple's Made In Japan and Hendrix's Band of Gypsys, most live albums where viewed by record labels as nice cheap cash grabs, and even now legendary live albums such as The Who's Live at Leeds were released in order to beat the bootleggers and were not looked at as legit albums by the labels, til KISS and Peter Frampton released their live albums, if I remember correctly. | |

| JP admitted that the vocals for "Unleashed in the East" were recorded in the studio, supposedly (although I am highly skeptical) in one take.
I care if it is touted as a "live" album and rated against other live albums (that may or may not be actually live). It gives one an unfair advantage. Of course it is easier to fix mistakes in the studio which is why most bands don't record everything live in one take anyway.
