| Some live albums make the music better and some don't. What are your favorite live albums? My favorite ones tied in first place would be Unleashed In The East - Judas Priest Alive - KISS Alive In Athens - Iced Earth | |

| I'm extremely picky about live albums... in most cases I don't even bother with them unless it's a band I've actually seen live. As a general rule I'd rather hear studio material. Of course, there are a few exceptions. Some of my favorite live CDs are:
Judas Priest - UNLEASHED IN THE EAST
Raven - LIVE AT THE INFERNO
Savatage - GHOST IN THE RUINS: A TRIBUTE TO CRISS OLIVA (I was at one of the shows that they used on this CD)
Halford - LIVE INSURRECTION Overkill - WRECKIN' YOUR NECK | |

| I've just been collecting live albums this winter. The best thing about them is that the bands tend to play with increased speed and volume live; so it turns some of my favorite hard rock into virtual metal. 1. Alex Harvey Band Live (that's what my tag SAHB stands for). 2. Slade On Stage (sounds more like AC/DC than glam). 3. Sweet- Live at the Rainbow (Kills Queen's Killers, despite mono sound) 4. UFO- Strangers in the Night (as good as it gets Live). | |

| I'm not a big fan of live albums, I'd much rather own a live DVD and get the whole show. But there are some killer albums out there that I've bought: KISS - Alive, Alive III Halford - Insurrection AC/DC - AC/DC Live (the first live album I ever bought, I played it so much I got sick of it for a long time ) | |

| Here's a good one I don't hear much about... Glenn Hughes: Burning Japan Live (great song selection) But in general I prefer my live metal on DVD, as the intensity of the music doesn't usually need to be racheted up as it does with hard rock. I preferer the cleaner studio sound for metal. For example the crowd noise and soccer chants on Slade on Stage I find appropriate, they add to the experience; but on Iced Earth in Athens I just find the crowd distracting (especially when the band lets the crowd come in at the wrong place during my favorite song). The Live in Athens discs played a big part in putting me off both Iced Earth and Stratovarious. But that's just my personal taste. | |

and I must admit that Mortification - Live Planetarium is a pretty good live album.

| I don't have my copy of Gillan's Double Trouble with me right now. Am I correct in remembering that it is one studio album and one Live; with both albums being burned onto the same CD on the CD re-issue? (I hate it when they do that. TNT and Andy Scott's Sweet also mixed live with studio on CD). | |

| I think live albums are very cool.. It gives me a chance to hear songs in a different format, maybe a part is played a different way. I used to listen to "If You Want Blood" by AC/DC or "All The Worlds A Stage" by Rush with headphones. I'd hear all the audience noise. Individual's yelling out stuff like "go Geddy" in YYZ on 'Exit Stage Left" ... I totally dug 'Live Life' by Thin Lizzy. It was much heavier than their studio stuff. Before the net and mtv (when it was good) live discs were the closest I got to shows when I was 12-15... My parents would'nt take me. Most live stuff now, even if it's not totally overdubbed to death, is still processed so much it takes away from the rawness of live performance. I want to hear the cordbuzz and rim shots. Heck I'd tape concerts off the radio King Biscuit back then or Rock Special back early 80's.. I had Ozzy from "diary" tour BOC from 'Fire Of Unknown..." tour... Priest on kingbiscuit from 'Screaming"... just cool stuff. | |
