Yeah, that's my choice right now too. It is going to be tough to unseat that. What a stunning debut.
It was released last year though....
So far, for me, the new Evergrey is topping the list. But I am far behind on my 2011 releases buying.
Maybe in Europe, but the US release date for that Ghost album is 2011.
I understand that. That still doesn't make it a 2011 album, imo. If it was available in 2010, then that is the original release year. It was also voted album of the year 2010 in Sweden Rock Magazine.

I just purchased my first 2011 release over the weekend, Social Distortion's Hard Times... and so far, it's not exactly knocking my socks off. Need more spins though.
The new album and last album are good, but Mike Ness isn't angry anymore, you know. The albums are "nice," if that makes sense. He's better a little more pissed off. Haha.
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. He's not pissed off anymore. Listening to the album, I thought he's either clean & sober for the first time or in love. Nothing wrong with either one of those things, but it doesn't make for a good Social D album. They need a decent amount of piss & vinegar.
Any idea what's mellowed him out? Just old age maybe? Can't be an angry young man forever I suppose.

Rub it in, why dontchya? It's going in my archives as a 2011 release. When I eventually get it, that is.

Ghost has a "schtick", not that different than Alice Cooper, Kiss, Mercyful Fate, etc. The lead singer wears deathmask makeup, the other band members all wear grimmrobes and black masks that cover their faces. No band member names, just "six nameless ghouls". It all makes for excellent camp.
The lyrics are all Hammer Horror inspired goofiness, not to be taken seriously unless you were really scared by 1960's occult films.
Not satanists, just really good marketing ideas backed up by excellent music.
p.s. - The album was released on Nov 2010 overseas, January in the States. I go by US release dates (personally).

Man, I hadn't heard anything off that Ghost album until I came across a track on a sampler yesterday. Some folks I know had been saying how great an album it was and after only one track, I'm certainly really curious to give the full thing go.
As for the original topic, I liked the new Jag Panzer. It's a good, solid record. But if that's as good as the year is going to get music-wise, I'm going to be very disappointed.

I checked out some samples on Amazon - one of the reviews said "Mercyful Fate, Blue Öyster Cult, and Voivod walk into a bar..."
Sounds accurate, except Mercyful Fate only for the lyrics - they sounds like something King Diamond would have wrote back in the day....
As Detuned mentioned, they have a "schtick" - they present themselves as "occult rock" and consider themselves a "devil worshiping ministry"

Wish the sound was better on that video, I love the vibe of the whole thing, it's retro goofy yet hip at the same time.
I usually don't go in for "image bands", but these guys are on a different level.

Ghost are okay. A bit pompy at times and the cheesy occult/satanic shtick wears thin in a while, but aside from that it is quite enjoyable psychedelic pop-rock.
I personally prefer their compatriots NOCTUM, which are more beefier, doom-laden 70's influenced proto-metal.

Yeah, that is how it was pitched to me. Makes me wonder if the dude that told me read that same amazon review. The song "Elizabeth" does remind me of Mercyful Fate, though. Especially when the singer hits the high falsettos. Definitely check them out FF, it is a good listen.
