| I have pondered on this question for some time. I know to most an avatar is nothing more than just a picture to use on a forum. Some have really creative avatars while other go for the bands they like.
But this is where my question lies: does the avatar, say a representation of the band you like, make others take your views / posts / threads less seriously? Say, if someone had an avatar of a \"thebandthatshallneverbementionedagain\" album but commented or started a thread about a band like Raven - would you be inclined to take that person's views less seriously because they're displaying their interest/likeness for a band that you don't care about?

| I hope not, because the Buffy avatar doesn't exactly scream "mature". |

| I dont really give a smurf poo either way, I think avatars are cool because no matter what they show a little bit about what that particulars persons interests are that they may not talk about on the forums in threads for whatever reason....such as metalguys poops and monkey theme etc. | |

| I think if someone had a nu-metal band avatar, they might be looked down on by the majority of members here. | |

| I've had all kinds of weird avatars since I've been a member of this board, and few, if any, have been metal related -- a photo of myself at 18 with the caption "BAD ASS!", I've had Duck Dodgers, movie posters for "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" and "Jason Takes Manhattan," a picture of Lacey Chabert from the cover of MAXIM magazine, Ren and Stimpy, cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, and those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.
I don't know what it makes the other forum members think of me, other than perhaps "This guy can't make up his frickin mind." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I don't think there is an avatar that can be taken seriously. Can anyone guess what my current avatar is? | |

A member of Cobra, not sure which though. Maybe one of the various Viper troops.

| I've never thought about that til now actually. However, I've already determined I don't really give a rat's ass.
But given the amount of people who either think I'm nuts or permanently burnt out, mine make alot of sense most of the time.

| If someone's avatar is a band I think is really bad (*cough* Dave Matthews band), I might have a hard time taking them seriously if they posted something negative about a band I really like. But beyond that, I enjoy looking at people's avatars. As others have said, whether intentionally or not, avatars reveal a little bit about a poster's personality. Even the lack of an avatar says something IMO. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I don't think so. When I first joined the board I had my bands album cover but I ended up changing it after a while because I didn't want everyone thinking I was only hear to post crap about my band and leave in a few weeks haha. All of a sudden I just started changing them once in a while. Either of an album or whatever struck me as funny. I even throw one of myself up there once in a while. If people take me less seriously when I put myself up there then I can see why.
This reminds me, christmas is over time to change the avatar. _________________

| I change my avatar every week because variety is the spice of life. I used to do it every other week but I like doing a bunch of different ones. I used to do ones featuring my ugly mug but decided on doing stuff more pleasant to look at. | |
