| Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead, Raven.... definatley some of the best...... first Saxon lp I heard was 'the eagle has landed'.... my friend was on restriction, no music for one week and he had just bought it. I borrowed it and played the grooves off it..... MACHINE GUNNNNNN!!!! GONNA SHOOT YOU DOWN !!!! First Maiden was 'Number' showed my Dad the cover and he bout had a heart attack.... bought 'Killers and 'Maiden Japan 5 song version' right after that....
There were so many records I just couldn't keep up... everytime I went to Record Factory there was something new. Between Metal Rendevous, Kerrang, Metal Forces, new bands coming out of ground .... not NWBHM but that first Yngwie Lp was $25 on Import in 84? It always a treat to see what was new....
Fastway.... I loved that first lp... I had it with the 7" single... cool stuff... Played "All For One" so many times.... good times | |

| My favourite band out of the NWOBHM movement was GIRL, they featured pre Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen and pre L.A. Guns singer Phil Lewis. They were a glammy hard rock band that mixed influences of the New York Dolls, Thin Lizzy, Japan and Aerosmith. The first 2 albums are essential particuarly the 1st: Girl - Sheer Greed (1980) (Featured a cover of Kiss classic 'Do You Love Me' and the original 'Hollywood Tease' before L.A. Guns covered it. Girl - Wasted Youth (1982) Girl Myspace http://www.myspace.com/girlsheergreedofficial Girl page on NWOBHM.com http://www.nwobhm.com/girl.htm Girl - Hollywood Tease (Old Grey Whistle Test tv show) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y_9OwteVt4 Girl - Strawberries (Old Grey Whistle Test tv show) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6TzlxfGK8k Girl - Sweet Kids (Old Grey Whistle Test tv show) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhCsnIIWSug

- I actually didn't like 90% of the underground NWOBHM bands I listened to - too much rock in it for me. Isn't metal just another form of rock and roll?
You didn't like Raven? These guys were some of the fastest around during that time. I like Raven stuff but never found of their stuff in stores. I'm searching on net too but cant buy on web because I don't have any credit card. |
