Thanks martinsane!!! For me, that was the death of this band. I think that album is awful. Here's hoping you feel differently.

Well the last really good Edguy album was Hellfire Club. I don't think Tobias' heart is into Edguy anymore - I think he's more focused on Avantasia. I don't think that at all. Like the rest of us, he's just gotten older and his style has evolved. Personally, I think Tobias started doing his best work from Hellfire Club on. I know most will disagree with that, but I tend to like bands more when they finally find their own sound. And usually that first album is where most fans draw the line. Edguy with Hellfire Club; Soilwork with Natural Born Chaos; In Flames with Reroute to Remain. It's like fans can sort of handle one album like that, but no more. Because the following album is the one fans claim to be the band's worst. People hated Rocket Ride. People hated Figure Number Five. People hated Soundtrack to Your Escape. If a band plays a typical style played by a million other bands, it's okay with fans; they'll worship a band. But if that band changes, carves their own unique niche into the mirrored walls of power metal or melodic death metal or whatever, fans get angry. It's weird.

New Eden - OBSCURE MASTER PLAN Tesla - FOREVER MORE Death Angel - THE ART OF DYING White Zombie - LA SEXORCISTO: DEVIL MUSIC, VOL. I GB Arts - THE LAKE Black Sabbath - THE BEST OF (cheap-o budget compilation of Tony Martin-era Sab, of which I own nothing, so I figured this would be a nice cheap starting point)
The FYE store's last day is this coming Friday, so this will probably be my last scrounge from there. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Thanx. Listening to "GB Arts" now. The only reason I grabbed that was cuz I vaguely remembered seeing the (odd) band name in a 'zine years ago. Fortunately my memory didn't fail me, turns out it's pretty decent sounding (so far) German power/prog metal. Skimming thru the liner notes I see that Peavey Wagner, Victor Smolski and Mike Terrana of Rage all make guest appearances on this thing. And it was just a buck 99. Cool. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Those guys never fail to deliver. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | The only reason it jumped out at me was cuz of the silly name. They sound a lot like their fellow Germans Angel Dust, if that helps any.
Movin' on now to the Tony Martin era Sabbath comp that I picked up... not bad. I think I've only heard the songs "Devil and Daughter" and/or "Headless Cross" off of this one (on Headbanger's Ball years ago). Dude sounds a lot like RJD. Maybe I've been unfairly ignoring this version of Sab for all these years. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

But if that band changes, carves their own unique niche into the mirrored walls of power metal or melodic death metal or whatever, fans get angry. It's weird. It matters not to me whether a band changes styles as long as I still like the music. The problem with that Edguy album for me is that I listened to it with an open mind but the music just didn't stick with me. Kamelot, Sentenced, Soilwork, and several others who have changed their style have not caused me to reject them though they have caused me to have second thoughts when they release an album that just doesn't stick with me. To be honest I haven't heard Rocket Ride so I would have to hear that first before I declare Edguy dead to me. Today in the mail from another CD binge I should try to avoid: Jag Panzer-The Age Of Mastery Jag Panzer-Mechanized Warfare 2 down, 3 to go.
