| Oh yeah, a few of the Overkill's are bad too. Mainly WFO and Immortalis. I snagged them cheap, but they're often listed for ridiculous prices. | |

| OK, so the downside is that you don't have a physical CD or vinyl album to hold, but for a savings of roughly $1999.27 (not including the $3 for shipping) you can buy a copy (CD quality of 256k bitrate) for $.73. http://www.mp3fund.com/album.html?id=9783 For the savings I could buy a bitchin' set of headphones for my iPod Good stuff BTW!!! Cheers, C. | |

| In 2007, I saw this disc in oslo in a record store, displayed for around 17 $. I was too lazy to pick it up! Now i regret it a lot, as i cannot find any of sanctuary's albums. | |

| Whoa ! That's outrageous ! I am constantly amazed at the prices some of these things will go for. Who'd be willing to pay that amount for a cd ? | |

| I think these prices are the product of the digital age. With fewer CDs being reprinted, and in some cases with CDs going out of print, it is very likely we'll be seeing more albums that were easily purchasable in the past with price tags in the hundreds. | |

So we should expect our collections to be worth millions in a few years

I dont think the prices are all that much unless someone is willing to pay them. Its one thing to list a price on Amazon but its an entirely different story for it to sell... _________________

Besides, at least with the ones I have looked at on Amazon, the really high prices seem to be for "new/sealed" or "collectible" copies (what's the difference, I wonder?)...oh well...another get rich quick scheme bites the dust. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

What you do, is when you see several going for $30 or so, throw one on for $20...it'll move quickly.

| As far as anyone being willing to pay that money, never say never!
Guys, I'm into gaming as well as music and I can tell you that there are some hardcore video game collectors out there who will drop hundreds of dollars at times even thousands for games that are say 20 - 30 years old.
There is a slight difference though. Video games and video game consoles go out of print and out of production when another new cycle of consoles is released. Such items become rarer quicker than music; however, with the digital age the physical product is going to slowly disappear. It makes financial sense to release the songs via Itunes or some other similar service; however there are still those of us who love the complete product.
I envisage that labels won't be reprinting many older albums in the years to come. Newer releases are probably still going to be available in some physical format whether it's CD or Vinyl but in very limited numbers - several thousand CDs and several hundred to maybe 1000 records.
Especially when it comes to metal - the sales figures for new albums even by popular bands like Dimmu Borgir is very very low compared to what it used to be even 10 years ago. Of course the ACDCs, Bon Jovis, Metallicas etc the upper echelon of classic arena rock bands will continue to sell their millions of copies but the reality is, their time in the spotlight is slowly fading and once they have their final farewells they won't be replaced by any other similar bands.
I hate the prospect of buying from Itunes - there's no way I can consider a bunch of mp3s as part of my music collection. That is not a collection of albums, just a bunch of meaningless valueless computer files. I need to hold the product in my hand, see the band photos, experience the lyrics and all this coming from a person of the CD generation! So I'm not even talking about gatefold records!
But whether it's a CD or a record, nothing can replace that tactile experience. It gives what you listen to a sense of meaning, and you remember years later how that album made you feel the first time you heard it, the experience you had buying that album.
Some of the most significant albums in my collection hold so many memories. Megadeth's Rust in Peace was a 16th birthday present from my parents and I remember exactly how I rocked out to that album the first time I heard it and how happy I was my parents got me that album. I mean Smurf! Kids these days expect a fuckin sports car for their 16th birthday and that is F.U.C.T. (to coin a phrase from Overkill's back catalog). That copy of Rust in Peace only cost about 12 bucks but who cares how little it cost, the sentimental value and the sheer awesome artistic value of the album far outweigh some lavish expensive gift that means nothing.

I agree that cds are good and I dont think that they will disappear entirely. Records died out but made it back and I think cds will be there as long as people buy them. _________________

| Earlier this year I got on ebay an unsealed Japanese copy of WFO for 13.00. If anyone is in the LA area Soundsations (down by Loyola Marymount) has a whole lot of Overkill CDs for six bucks a piece. I'm always amazed how they just sit there. And not because of the collectors prices either. Too good of stuff to not have a home.
Another one I keep hoping in vain will come down - Coroner's Grin. Feel stupid for not getting this one on ebay when I had a few chances. I think I got spoiled because the rest of the Coroner discs I've picked up cheap.
If you think these prices are ridiculous, try collecting old school 80's rap. Not only are the prices three figures but the instant one goes up under that it gets snagged. It's insane. And even though I'm a fan of it, even I will admit that most of that stuff is one or two singles and the rest filler. And I'm sure with those prices the bootlegging is out of hand.
