Subject: Any Jetboy fans? Wed Nov 10, 2010 5:05 pm
I recently broke out the first 2 Jetboy albums, Feel the Shake and Damned Nation. I hadn't listened to either disc in quite some time. In fact, the only reason I pulled them out was to see if they were worth holding onto.
Both discs held up surprisingly well for me, seeing how I don't play much glam/hair metal these days. Maybe it was just a nostalgia trip, but I enjoyed them both, especially Damned Nation.
I know that they've put out some other albums since that time, but I haven't heard a note from any of them. Part of me wants to check out some of their newer material out of curiosity but a bigger part of me is hesitant that I'll just be disappointed and they won't live up to those first 2 discs in my mind, no matter how good they might actually be.
Are any of their other discs worth a listen or should I just stick with the 2 I've got and keep their memories untarnished?
By the way, Ult, I'd suggest those first 2 albums for review on your website as well.

They have a Lost & Found disc that I thought was pretty decent. Love the first two albums, and I don't break them out as often as I should.

I have FEEL THE SHAKE and it still gets an occasional spin. Love that title track.

Is that Lost & Found album new material or unreleased demos and stuff like that? It looks like they have a coupla of those types of releases. A greatest hits-type comp and a few "unreleased" tracks here and there, but not much in the way of new material other than an ep that I can find.

I remember them from the "Burbs" movie I always wanted to check them out, but lived in a town that sold more country music than rock so overtime I just forgot about them, I will have to check them out

I haven't played their cds in quite awhile. Damned Nation is a great record.

I think it is just unreleased stuff. I found it real cheap awhile back and liked it so much I upgraded my tapes of Feel The Shake and Damned Nation.

New song's ok I guess. Not sure that I need to add anymore Jetboy to my collection though. Sorry, fellas, but I'll stick with your first 2 albums.

I see that the last time I posted in this thread (eight years ago!), I only owned Feel The Shake... since then have also acquired Damned Nation, which I actually like better than FtS. I'd be up for new stuff from them if it's good. Will have to check out the new tune later.

I recently retold the story in another thread here of how I actually "discovered" Jetboy a few years back. I stupidly and immaturely passed on them back in the day (late 1980's) because they didn't fit the mold of what I considered Hair Metal. I absolutely love the first 2 albums and like what I have heard so far of the new release. But, like I have stated before of a lot of old bands making new albums, it has to blow me away to get spin time.

I remember the bass player died Todd Crew - he may have been partying with Slash. FTS - is one fun release. I actually had the album. Then when they invented the CD. When I hear the CD, I hear a band playing for a crowded club in the hey day of the 80’s. A prime example of that time period. And they had a unique style and sound.

Update - lol - I listened to Damned Nation for the first time. That - is one strong follow up. Sounds tougher and faster, but not glaringly. I have to buy the CD - for car blasting September 😛

They are not one of my go-to bands from the genre, but do enjoy playing the first two albums from time to time. Damned Nation definitely has the better sound of the two. The first one sounds kind of thin and powerless to me.
I listened to their full discography, or as much of it as I could find, including all of those demo collections, earlier this year. Most of it was not that memorable. The new song posted above sounds much better.
This is one of the few bands from the genre that I still haven't seen live. Hope I get a chance soon!

Bump...
I recently picked up Jetboy's 1999 release Make Some More Noise. Fans looking for that classic Jetboy sound from back in the day should dig this album.
If I'm reading the liner notes correctly, it's songs written and recorded during the Feel the Shake and Damned Nation era, along with songs demoed for a 3rd album that never came to be. It's original recordings from the classic mohawked line-up. Sound quality is good too. They don't sound like cheap demos.
You can get it pretty cheap through the Perris Records website as part of their "Pick 4" packs (http://perrisrecords.com/sale_cds/4_cd_lot_sale___31_titles_available/). I got this disc and 3 others for $9.99 total.

I only know their song Feel the Shake. It’s a cool song in the style of Blow My Fuse era KIX.

They didn't do anything radically different than what was going on at the time, but I have very fond memories associated with their early albums. And they've both held up pretty well in 2019. Check out Damned Nation.

I too would like to express my fondness for this particular compilation.
I've had JetBoy's Feel The Shake in my collection for years, but aside from the title track and one or two other songs, it never did much for me. On a whim I snagged Damned Nation a while ago, and I like that album much better, the songs on the debut were OK but the production was too slick. The production on D.N. was more dirty/raunchy, the way sleaze rock like this is supposed to sound. The songs on this comp are in that same pocket. Me likee.
I've checked out the new tune from the forthcoming new album and it didn't do much for me either, so I think I'm good with the JetBoy stuff I have.

Yea, the new track didn't do much for me either. So many of those Frontiers releases just sound so generic and bland. Not bad, but they have no personality or spark.
Damned Nation was definitely the stronger of the first 2 albums, but I have a fondness for Feel the Shake too.

I listened to the new album today. Like others have said, it's a little plain, and the production is not that great. But they do stick pretty close to their classic sound, so fans of their previous albums shouldn't be turned off by this one. Born to Fly was not a very good single though.

I agree on both parts. Damned Nation had much better songwriting.

Didn’t know Sami Yaffa was in the band - 1987-1990. Bass guitar, back up vocals. Todd Crew, bass, died July 1987. I’ve always loved that Hanoi’s Rocks - “ Two Steps from the Move “ 1984 release.
Still haven’t got Damn Nation - $25 bucks…..used…….ehh
