Sodom, IMO, are more consistent.
bullsh*t +1 Sodom is alright (especially Agent Orange) but they never made anything as memorable as Slayer's albums.

I might add that their influence on thrash is nearly nonexistent compared to Slayer, who are recognized as one of the pioneers of thrash. Basically their sound is a big deal in the metal world...

| If anything Kreator is the closest thing to Slayer in Europe. Sure they made that dud called Endorama, but Slayer made Diabolus in Musica...
The poll should be SLAYER vs KREATOR.

| If you check out the first demo by SODOM, WITCHING METAL from 1982 it sounded more like thrash then the first SLAYER album SHOW NO MERCY from 1983, that was a lot more speed metal. I think all those old bands like METALLICA, EXODUS, CELTIC FROST, DARKNESS, KREATOR, VOIVOD, DESTRUCTION etc...were influencing each other with the help of tape trading etc...A lot of the band members of those bands were in contact. | |

bullsh*t Bulltrue. With major bands like the big 4: Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica. Each of those bands have released less-than-stellar albums and yes, the can sell out to make crap records because the record companies can afford it. With bands like Sodom, they almost have to try a little bit harder because, A) smaller label with a risk to be dropped, B) have more critical fans, C) Slayer is a brand name that sells. I don't see too many 12 y/o wearing "Tapping The Vein" shirts. SODOM JUST KICKS BIGGER ASS THAN SLAYER!!!!

In your opinion... Some people might not even think Sodom have made 1 good record. Some may think all Slayer records are great. It's all opinion. There is a reason Slayer has become a bigger name than Sodom. Both bands started underground and had the same blank slate to make something of themselves... Slayer happened to develop a signature sound while others were good but generic.

| I think DIABOLUS IN MUSICA is a bad album, and to modern. SODOM sticked to their guns and didnt betray their old fans by releasing a modern metalcore or nu metal album. I think SLAYER put a lot of modern sounds in their music. I am happy they came back strong with WORLD PAINTED BLOOD, a real thrash metal album. | |

I dont want the same album over and over but i dont want modern or alternative influences on a thrash metal album, and i think SLAYER got some influences from NU METAL or&and Alternative on some of their albums, and thats something i dont like. Its okay for a thrash band to experiment with other styles, like mixing in their music more heavy metal, or speed metal, but please, dont mix thrash metal with modern non tradicional metal styles.

Like you said earlier, it's all opinions. True, Sodom's music isn't complex, but I don't believe it to be "generic." You could apply that term to some of these retro-thrash bands now. You must not be a fan of Motorhead either then? To be honest, this is a pointless thread. I love both bands, and like I said before I won't pick one or the other. I could pick Sodom today, and Slayer tomorrow, and vice versa.

| SODOM generic? Please. Sodom have progressed with each release. Don't tell me that M16 sounds like In The Sign of Evil, because it doesnt. | |

| In my humble opinion, Slayer has regressed and Sodom has gotten progressivly better. To be fair, Sodom hasn't made an album that quite matches up to the unholy trinity of Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven,or Seasons In The Abyss. M-16 comes the closest. But then again what do I know? I thought Ironbound sucked. | |
