I hope everyone takes out their albums from 2009 and gives them all fresh spins. Sometimes you can find that you've really overlooked something. Maybe even under-estimated it.
What one album from 2009 do you really love now, but didn't much care for it at the time you got it?
Anything?
For me, it's easily gotta be Hammerfall's "No Sacrifice, No Victory".
I'm not sure what happened.
I heard it once - and it just didn't really click with me.
So I just shelved it.
Anyway - the other day I pulled it out of the CD chambers and gave it a fresh spin. WHOAH! Here I thought this was Hammerfall's worst album - and was totally disappointed in it. I'm not sure why. Weird how this happens.
I'd actually say this new Hammerfall is their 3rd best (right after "Crimson Thunder" and "Renegade").
How about you? Agreed! NSNV is a good album to me now, but at first I loathed it! Now I can say I dig it! 8.5/10
Cool! Same experience dude!!
I remember we both disliked the CD when we first heard it, but time can sometimes make all the difference with an album. I am just used to CDs by bands I love clicking with me a lot easier than this one did at first.

I think The Circle is easily Bon Jovi's best album since Keep The Faith. That having been said: 6/10.

| For me, Porcupine Tree's - The Incident did not really take off, and I was surprised I didnt really find much to like on it. Set it down and a few weeks later I went back to it and each listen I began to really enjoy. Now I love it, although it would not be my favorite album by them, still very good. | |

| It took a few listens for me to really get into The Incident, but I did like it right away.
For me the two biggest changes in opinion I've had with a 2009 album have been:
Maudlin of the Well - Part the Second. I got it because it was a free, legal download. And I despised it. But for some reason I kept listening to it. And now I think it's brilliant.
Believer - Gabriel. Thought this was pretty lackluster for a while, though that may have been because I bought Cynic's Traced in Air at the same time, which is an obviously superior disc. After listening to it more through the rest of the year though, Gabriel started to grow on me. It's not my favorite Believer disc, but it is pretty good overall.

| Wino - Punctuated Equilibrium.
I definitely liked the album from the beginning, but felt there was something odd about the sequencing/flow. However, on repeated listenings, it became apparent that it's basically an "autobiographical" album...one where Wino pays visits to a variety of his influences. Once my mind wrapped around that concept the album "clicked".
This was further enhanced by the LP release which contains 4 bonus tracks not on the CD release. |

| Can't think of any that I didn't like the first time but I will re-examine them if I find the time. | |

Thought it was alright first listen but not something I would return to. Gave it another listen, and while it didn't blow me away, I liked it much better with subsequent spins. Enough so that I decided to keep it. Brilliant album.... If Iron Maiden played death metal this is what they'd sound like....

| I also had a similar initial reaction to PT's "The Incident". I liked it at first, but it seemed kind of distant. The 2nd disc clicked right away, it just took awhile for the concept album part to really gel. Now I think it's brilliant. |
