A lot of people write this band off without even giving them a proper chance. Their name sounds extreme (and granted, they are) - but they are a lot more than that.
I have seen them live twice - and even got to hang out with their drummer. Really nice guy.
live, they are one of the best acts you can see.
But this band really infuses a lot of thrash in their music.
Technically, they are labeled a blackened death metal band. And rightfully so, but IMO - these guys really have a lot more thrash influence than a lot of other bands of their same ilk.
Check them out here and let me know what you think.

I love these guys, as I do most New Orleans area metal. Solient Green is another great band.

Well, I'm not fan of black or death metal, but I gave 'em a listen so I could form some sorta half-assed opinion. So here it goes...
Not bad. Musically, it kicks ass. But the vocals ruin it for me. While they aren't completely horrible, I just can't see listening to a whole album of this. Repeated spins and who knows, it might grow on me after awhile. It's happened before. But I can't see putting that much effort into trying to like a band. I might not take to a band immediatley, but if there is something I really like, I'll give 'em a chance. But there's so much more out there that I'd rather listen to without having to put out the effort of liking.
Sorry MB. Not my thing.

As I understand it, goat does are in heat once each month (though gestation period for a kid is about 4 months) and will typically mate with any buck nearby. Around this time, the buck will urinate upon himself as well as smell the doe's urine to confirm a readiness of mating. The reproductive urge is said to be overwhelming and goat kids from only mere weeks in age will try mounting one another.
I will like to know the boundaries and contexts for the relatively mild terminology of 'goatwhore'. It seems to me the implications of the term are nullified by it's own redundancy.

I really like this band. Saw them open for Obituary this past summer. They can put on a show!

You got that right! Many bands are so boring live, but not Goatwhore. This is one of the few bands in my collection that I actually prefer live to their studio material. I like their studio stuff too, don't get me wrong - but to really capture the true essence of this band, one needs to witness their live show. I think you know what I mean by that.
I was unfamiliar with them until I saw them live a few years ago - opening for Exodus. It was at this show that I became a fan. I even went out of my way to see them live a month ago even though they were not the headlining band.

I think you and I have more appreciation for extreme metal than anyone else here. You are the extreme metal king though. I'm just a duke.

No need to apologize, it's not everyone's cup of tea. I was actually pretty surprised I liked them so much. When I first heard their name, I just thought they'd be pretty awful. Now they are one of my fave extreme metal bands.

I've heard 'of' Soilent Green, but never heard them. Are they anything like Goatwhore? If so, I'll have to pick something up.

Musically I think Solient Green is better, Ben Falgoust is the vocalist for both bands I believe.

Great band!! I've seen them live a few times opening for Celtic Frost, Napalm Death and Immolation. They are definitely worth seeing live!!

Okay, I'll check them out for sure then! I had no idea Ben was in any other bands.

I guess I'll have to check out Soilent Green as well.
Btw, Goatwhore's newest album owns! Not a bad song IMO. Probably my favorite so far. I own Funeral Dirge, A Haunting Curse, and the new one, which I have been hesitant to post the title as I'm sure it will steer some here away.

I saw em here in Vegas and they were BORING. Statues on stage! How this band opened for Celtic Frost is beyond me.
Not a fan, but I don't hate them either.

Musically speaking, they are very good. But the inverted cross in their video clip is a complete turn off. This is why i dislike most of the black metal scene.

Boring? Are you serious? Their live show is what turned me into a fan.
I see a lot of concerts ... about 24 a year at least. And I gotta say out of the extreme metal scene. Most bands just stand there and bore me. Goatwhore is an exception to the rule. They're stage presence KILLS!
Perhaps you saw them on an 'off' night. I don't know what else to say.
I just saw them last month. They opened for Suffocation.
Suffocation bored me to tears and Goatwhore put them to shame!!! The whole audience was yelling GOATWHORE!! GOATWHORE!! Until the place blew out in an uproar!!!
I was yelling so loud I almost lost my vocal chords for one whole day.
Goatwhore puts most bands to shame when it comes to live presence. You need to catch them at another time when they are more on. They were probably worn out and tired when you saw them. Maybe sick.
There's a reason Celtic Frost chose them to open. Their reputation preceeds them.
