Top 25 METAL albums of the decade

So, the end of the 00's is upon us......... Since lots of clueless reviewers and mags are making lists, why not on HoM? We could also take the lists presented and create that HoM best CD's of the decade list from your lists. Here's mine:



25) Anvil – This Is Thirteen
Great album and great comeback of the edge of nothingness!! Watching the movie Anvil: The Story of Anvil just makes the CD even better!!!

24) Slayer – World Painted Blood
AWESOME, AWESOME release!!!! This is the way SLAYER should be!!!!

23) Stryper – Murder By Pride
Stryper really nails it with their second release since reforming!!!

22) Judas Priest – Angel of Retribution
Wow – what a great ‘Rob is back’ statement from the band! The album sounds like Priest, all eras!!!!

21) Ace Frehley – Anomoly
Ace at his best!!!!! This is his best release since his 78 solo album!!!!

20) Airbourne – Runnin’ Wild
AWESOME Australian “Pub Rock” – yes, they have been labeled AC/DC clones, but this album just rocks and rocks hard!!!!

19) Ultimatum – Lex Metalis
After the release of the excellent “Into The Pit”, Scott and the boys come roaring back with the best covers album of the decade!!!

18) Trans-Siberian Orchestra – The Lost Christmas Eve
The third part of TSO’s Christmas Trilogy is awesome and is harder and heavier than the previous two. Yes, it has a bit of everything on it, but it is an excellent release!!!

17) The Darkness – Permission To Land
AWESOME debut from a The Darkness. Too bad they didn’t make it through the decade to release more music. A great, great, album mixing 70’s hard rock and 80’s hair metal!

16) Edguy – Hellfire Club
German power metal at its best!!!!

15) Astral Doors – New Revelation
Holy cow!!! This is good!!!!!!! The vocals sound a bit like Dio and this music is just fantastic!!!! I never would have discovered this band if it wasn’t for this board!!!!

14) AC/DC – Black Ice
AC/DC finally release a new album and it is the best thing they have done since ‘the Razor’s Edge”!

13) Iron Maiden – Dance Of Death
Maiden’s second release since the return of Bruce and Adrian and it is a good one! The style is a bit different, but you can tell it is Maiden!!!!!

12) King’s X – XV
This one took me a while to a while to get into, much like the band’s debut album, but it is awesome!!! Their best release since “Dogman”!!!!!

11) Fates Warning – FWX
Fates Warning deliver another progressive metal masterpiece!!!!!! Fantastic, fantastic album!!!

10) Motorhead – Motorizer
Lemmy just keeps crankin’ out the albums!!!! I don’t know what he did on this one, but he released a classic Motorhead album!!!!

9) The Sword – Age Of Winters
This band from Austin, Texas released the best debut album of the decade – if you don’t have it, get it.

8) KISS – Sonic Boom
KISS finally release a new album! No, it doesn’t have Ace or Peter playing on it, but it is an awesome release and is pure KISS. Their best release since “Revenge” and better than “Lick It Up” through “HITS”

7) Heaven & Hell – The Devil You Know
Black Sabbath with Dio behind the mic returns with an awesome, awesome release!!! Dark, heavy and doom-y, this is a must buy!!!

6) Dream Theater – Black Clouds & Sliver Linings
After a decade of releasing good albums, Dream Theater releases their best album of the decade and best thing they have done since “SFAM”. The songs are excellent and this is a progressive metal masterpiece!!!

5) Megadeth – Endgame
Wow – Dave Mustaine really delivers on this one!!! Not as good as the classic ‘RIP’ but the best thing he has released since!!!

4) Metallica – Death Magnetic
After many, many years Metallica finally deliver with ‘Death Magnetic’. Simply put, the best album they have released since ‘…. And Justice’!

3) Iron Maiden – Brave New World
Not only does Bruce return but he brings Adrian with him!!!!! Adrian’s song writing ability brings what had been lacking in that department since SSOASS. And Bruce still sounds awesome!!!!


2) Mastodon – Crack The Skye
Mastodon release their masterpiece, a concept album that is hard to follow, but who cares? This album is so creative and awesome and progressive! This is a must buy.

1) Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
My personal favorite album of the decade!!!! Iron Maiden creates a neo-progressive metal masterpiece!!!! While not a concept album, it needs to be played in its entirety! No filler and all killer, the best thing they have done since ‘Piece Of Mind’! This is the album that has been played the most on my ipod and needs repeated listens to fully catch everything that is going on musically.

I'll have to put some thought into this and I'll get back to you tonight.

BTW, I agree with you on The Lost Christmas Eve. Out of the 3 TSO Christmas albums that one is definatly a very underrated album (I enjoy the first two but they are given more credit than that one).

I agree with Permission to Land, Running Wild and Brave New World being included. Especially The Darkness. They could've been such a great band, shame they had to stop.

I'd have to submit Becoming The Archetype - Terminate Damnation to be considered.

17.)CAGE-Hell Destroyer
This cd was one of the tops for me in 07.

16.)DEATH ANGEL-Killing Season
Damn Fine Album from these Thrashers.Alot of people didnt like it but I have played the thing to death

15.)TESTAMENT-The Formation of Damnation
Great Return from one of my all time faves.Great mix of the old and new material

14.)MEGADETH-Endgame
Great release for this year.Its my favorite since Rust in Peace

13.)VIOLATOR-Chemical Assault
Awesome Young Thrash band from Brazil.Lots of catchy tunes on here

12.)HIRAX-El Rostro De La Muerte
This will make pretty close to the top of my list for 09.Katons voice just gets better and better.

11.)SYMPHORCE-Become Death
This is the heaviest thing they've put out and it was pure gold.

10.)HIRAX-The New Age of Terror
Hirax winds up on my list twice.These guys are riff masters and this album is one of the best thrash albums of all time.

9.)WARRIOR-The Code of Life
You've got Rob Rock on vocals and great songwriting and this album is a masterpiece.

8.)SHADOWS FALL-The War Within
One of my favorite newer bands.These guys start going in more of a thrash direction with this album.I still play this album alot even after owning for about 5 years.

7.)RAVAGE-The End of Tomorrow
One of the best albums for 09.Great songs,Great musicians,killer riffs.Go buy it!

6.)HELSTAR-The King of Hell
Oh the Legendary Helstar.Does it get much better than Rivera and Co.

5.)THEOCRACY-Mirror of Souls
I stil play this thing to death.On of THE best power metal albums of all time,christian or otherwise.Everything is perfect about this album.

4.)STRYPER-Murder By Pride
My Favorite band of all time finally redeem themselves after putting out Reborn.Back are the solos and vocal harmonies.Great Return to form

3.)MUNICIPAL WASTE-The Art of Partying
These guys play thrash the way I like it,lots of punk attitude and that crossover sound.They have a great sense of humor as well

2.)GAMA BOMB-Citizen Brain
Awesome thrash album from Irelands own Gama Bomb.These guys bring it on here with a little punk delivery and some humor thrown in.

1.)HYADES-And The Worst is Yet to Come
These guys are probably my favorite Thrash band of the newer wave of thrash bands.They have everything I like,The bay area sound,the humor,the gritty.gravely vocals.Italy has some great Thrash bands-Hyades are one example.
