| Currently I'm rockin' Windows Media Player 10, or as I like to call it, Freeze! I have a large collection which I've ripped over the course of the last year, so we're talking nearly 100,000 MP3s. Freeze! simply doesn't handle all those files very well.
Anyone know of a media player that doesn't lock up all the time while it "thinks?"
Thanks, Dong | |

Nah - itunes rules!!!! Geart product from Apple. Back in the day, I used to use winamp, but it sucks now. Of course, I worked at AOL and was big on using anything AOL owned (i.e. netscape over IE)

Thanks, Dong I'm having the same problem with WMP 11. The problems started when I got my external harddrive, and used it for my music. Now it takes forever to even find the darn files. _________________

| Best free player out there for Windows is Foobar2000. It can handle all the formats (including .flac) and is very customizable. Has a built in audio converter as well.

Best media player for the Mac OS is iTunes easily, I just don't like the way it runs on Windows. |

| I use Windows Media Player 11. Less freezey than 10 and a cooler interface. | |

Best media player for the Mac OS is iTunes easily, I just don't like the way it runs on Windows. Gave this a try. It was great, but every time I shut it down, I lost all the setting I changed. And every time I started it, it would go through an Indexing Files process that took forever because it was indexing nearly 80,000 files. Trying iTunes now, but it's already annoying me. I added some albums, then deleted them. Well, iTunes deleted the MP3s from the folders and not the folders, and of course my Recycle Bin was full of MP3 files that I wanted deleted. So then these four albums were all mixed in. A bit annoying.

| iTunes is not difficult. Once you set your preferences how you want them it's really very simple. |

| Winamp I remember using that about 10 years ago. The coolest feature was all the skins you could choose. I've been a steady user of Windows Media Player for years now. I don't like iTunes. I have it, but I only use it to build my iPod playlist. It's an ugly looking and slow moving player. | |

| Yeah, iTunes is a beast! Windows Media Player uses about 30K memory, but iTunes apparently uses about 130K. That's insane. Way too much stuff going on with that program. | |

I tried it when it came out, and it was confusing. I set up a lot of playlists and stuff, and it simply wasn't very intuitive, so I rolled back to 10.

Then they have a new update for it about every week which makes it even larger.
