Obituary, Massacre and Morbid Angel are some of my faves.

was Sinister mentioned here or Grave. I like those. I just like alot of death metal music.

Another that dosnt get much credit, is the brazilian band Sadist...obscure but a very ripping band. A label reissued some of their material, I think you can get it thru cdbaby...

Apparently all the death metal bands I like aren't even death metal. I guess this is a genre I can completely write off.

I wrote this genre off decades ago. Unless you like vocals that go "WOOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH", you can pretty much pass on death metal.

Some talented musicians no doubt but the vocals are a dealbreaker for me.

I kinda get where you're coming from. Most death metal bores me, but there's a couple of bands that I really, really like. Like Arghoslent, haha. If those guys weren't a bunch of racist dickwads they'd be the next big thing in metal.

On my side, without a doubt, I'd say Edge of Sanity.

Their first two have that rather classic old-school Swedish sound, but they adopted a more progressive and melodic approach afterwards culminating in the awesome "Crimson" album - one song, 40 minutes long.

I've become a major Opeth fan, but I don't really classify them as death metal. More like a progressive rock band with death metal elements thrown in.
