Rockers from unlikely sources

What I am looking for here is heavy hard rock songs or albums from artists that the casual fan might not expect that sort of thing from. Often this is early work from bands that went on to bigger (if not better) things.

Two well known examples:

album- Def Leppard "On Through the Night"
song- Foreigner "War With the World"

I'll start with two obscurities:

album- Paris s/t (Bob Welch)
song- Skyhooks "Bbbooogie"

some bands went through a heavy period later, like Slade.

When Slash played guitar for Michael Jackson, he did have some "heavier" songs on his albums. At least there was guitar solos.

Oh, and Google E-Type, a swedish dance/trance artist. He used to play in a metal band!

Queensryche - Queen of the Ryche. The guitar sound was kinda heavy and unlike anything they put out after. Their guitar sound got much "cleaner" later on.

Barracauda by Heart, is a great galloping metal number. Other than that hard rock/metal rarely shows its head again in the Heart catalogue, which is a shame i thought they could of been that band were they have the commercial songs but when you get on the album their is a couple of heavies.

A few Pink Floyd songs. Run Like Hell and the part in The Trial when the Judge talks comes to mind.

I forget the title, but there is an old Osmond Brothers song that had some pretty decent guitar work. "Bad Apples" or something like that. Anyone else remember this?

Some metal band should cover this. It's a really rockin' tune from a buncha Mormons.

Ironically the SAHB covered this song in heavy mode on their "Penthouse Tapes" album. The covered Coop's "Schools out" and a cool Ian Anderson song there too.
There are a number of fairly heavy songs on the Osmonds "Crazy Horses" and "The Plan" albums.

Midnight Oil - Beda Are Burning

Adam And The Ants "Physical (You're So)"

This song is totally heavy, slashing sleaze metal riffs and bounding lurching rhythm. At times sounds like David Bowie fronting Black Sabbath or the biker metal of Circus Of Power and The Cult 'Electric Era'. About as heavy as most NWOBHM at the time of this song which is 1980! Actually the album Kings Of The Wild Frontier has quite a bit of heavy metal, but the song Physical is most consistent. Other songs like 'Magnificent Five' has that element to it.

To compound the point of Adam being awesome...how about "Beat My Guest"? That song kills as well.

The Cranberries actually had quite a few songs like "Zombie." Very good band. And I did always like "Black Cat" by old Ms. Jackson. And what about "Dirty Diana" from her fruitloop brother? Solid tune!

I'd have to say one of the biggest examples of this would be Pyogenesis.

Whiteheart - Inside (the song, not the album)

Good one FOJ....much of that album is so so for me but there are some true rockers on that one. I wish they were like that more often. They have it in them!

Good call. When I first heard that song on M88, I called them up to ask who it was. My jaw dropped when they told me it was Whiteheart.

Black Cat is a good choice as well. Vernon Reid ripped it up on that song.

You heard the total white noise of L.A. Blues its the most extreme piece of music i've heard apart from several live recordings by the Birthday Party.
