I don't like new metal

I find it strange that I have this disctinct "hate" for anything that is supposedly metal, that are younger than my children! :lol I gre up listening to metal, and metal was such a broad and wide musical spectre. But in recent years I hve really narrowed in on what I feel is metal from newer bands. I keep hearing about Trivium and Crooked X and whtnot, and I just kind seem to get my self to liking it. And I know it is metal, but I just don't want to call it that. It's weird.

I don't like much of the "new" (as opposed to "nu") metal either. Too much WOOOOARRRRGH.

It's not just the Avenged Sevenfolds or Lamb of god's out there I have something against. It's all the "fake"-metal bands like Trivium that really ralley's up my blood!

The only "new" metal I like are bands that sounds like "old" metal.

That's because I'm an "old metalhead".

The wannabe pantera sound that none of the bands are even good at is sickening.

Even when i do like a band, the vocalist ruins it for me 99 percent of the time.

Metalcore isn't real metal.

What I donot like about alot of the bands post 2000 is that alot of bands try to be mini versions of something that has already been done successfully, I like Slipknot, Lamb of God, Static X, but the world doesnot need a whole legion of 2nd rate versions of these bands.

I think alot of the newer bands just seem to follow what ever is popular in metal instead of just evolving naturally.

All there is out there right now is fake metal : trivium? bullet for my valentine? bring me the horizon?? How about slipknot? Damn modern music. I don't blame those bands. I blame big corporations and metal mags who are just giving them too much credit, for marketing and money purposes.

This is why i have decided to stick to old metal. Everytime i go shopping for music, i check the oldies (mainly the 80's). And whenever i'm on the hunt for music on the internet, i'm always interested in discovering old bands. Metal is like wine: the older it is, the tastier it gets.

Fake metal I am not sure if that is fair label, maybe you don't care for Bullet for My Valentine or whoever I am not sure if that makes them fake, especially since even on this board we can't even agree what older bands are metal or not metal.

Another possiability is maybe people are age (30 +) are meant to like nu-metal/ newer metal bands maybe it is to paraphrase Jim Morrison "What the adults don't know, kids will understand"

It seems like the the majority of new 'new' bands out there have no heart in the music and it sounds hollow and empty...

I've found some newer bands I like. 3 Inches of Blood comes to mind. I don't completely hate "nu" either, that is if bands like Sevendust and Disturbed are nu.

But I do understand where everyone is coming from. I can't get into bands like Trivium, Slipknot, etc. much either. I don't hate them, but tend to find them boring.

...all I know is that if Hammerfall is considered "metal"...then something is seriously wrong with the universe. Or there's something seriously wrong with me. (probably both)

i like a lot of different styles. i can't say i hate any particular one. there are certain bands within each that i don't care for though.

I have been contemplating bringing this subject up and didn't want to sound like an elitist or know-it-all on the topic, but I fully agree with you Kmorg! This same thing I was trying to get out in the "Metal God" thread yesterday and probably came off as a pompous ass in saying what I did, but its the truth. Those bands you listed are not metal! I don't know how they got tagged that for sure, but whoever did it needs a beating. I wouldn't know what they would call it, but Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Static X, and so much more I don't consider metal either. They are all about as metal as Journey.

I realize I am getting old and the stuff younger people like these days is a lot different than what I listen to now. I know my parents think the same thing about my music.

Most metalcore and Nu metal I wont even give a chance usually because the fake emotion pisses me off. But as for new metal coming out, I cant bring myself to purchase because I have so many classics that are missing from my collection...thats probably why I cant come up with my albums of 2008 list!

I know what you mean stender. I tend to go obessive by band. It was alice cooper and now its ZZ Top. I am also working on my cinderella, GNR and Threshold catalogs.

I was fortunate because my Mother was a hard rock fan - so the stuff I heard around the house as a child was Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath...plus bands like The Beatles, CSN&Y, The Doors, Steppenwolf, etc.

She also took me to my first concert...The Doobie Brothers with UFO opening up.

If you want to listen to newer metal bands, forget about those popular metacore bands and listen to bands like CONVIXION, IGNITOR, CRYSTAL VIPER, PORTRAIT, ENFORCER, SOLITAIRE etc....They are all keeping the real metal alive.
