What is the band or artist that began your love for metal music?

It was Quiet Riot for me. It was 1984 and I was 9. I still am a huge fan.

Before then, it was only Daryl Hall and Adam Ant for me. Rolling Eyes

I started listening to heavy music in the 70's. I had a neighbor who would blast Kiss, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, etc. I was in awe. I started collecting vinyl when I was in grade school. Other kids were into the Jackson 5 and Bay City Rollers (the in bands of the day) and I was listening to Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath.

Wow...that's hard to pin down. Favorite songs in 1980 - Electric Avenue, Celebrate and Another One Bites The Dust ...so Queen may have been the first.

Then I was also influenced by Quiet Riot with Metal Health, Twisted Sister, and Motley Crue in 1983-84. But I still wasn't in the "grip" of metal until.............

Bride and Whitecross both grabbed me in the late 80's and I was hooked. "D", Tourniquet, Iron Maiden, Vengeance Rising soon followed in quick succession and I haven't looked back.....

Hmmm, the FIRST Metal I ever heard was on an old radio show late at
night called the 4-runner show in the Sacramento area were I grew up.
While Soldiers Under Command was the first tape I ever owned (dad
bought it for me) the first songs I think I ever remember hearing were
"Surprise" by Stryken, Seek & Destroy-Philadelphia, Too Late for
Living-Saint, Walk On the Water-Daniel Band and Rock The Flock-Messiah
Prophet.

I didn't pay much attention to music when I was a little kid. I was aware that KISS existed in the late 70s when I was in grade school, but I was more interested in the fire breathing, the blood spewing and the monster make up than in their actual tunes at that time.

By the time I started junior high, AC/DC had just released "Back In Black" and they were all the rage so I was interested in hearing what they sounded like. My first ever cassette (remember cassettes?) was their LET THERE BE ROCK (simply because it was cheaper than BACK IN BLACK when I went to the department store, since it was an older title, haha)... and it's still my favorite AC/DC album. I wore out two cassettes of that thing and finally upgraded it to CD about five years ago.

A few months ago I borrowed their Greatest Hits from some kid at the factory I worked at and wow... I can't beleive I use to listen to them.

That's an easy one for me. Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction. Without having the benefit of older siblings to guide me, the only music I listened to was either the classic rock that my parents listened to or whatever was popular on the radio in the 80's. I knew of bands like Aerosmith, Rush, KISS, etc, but never really listened to them. When ...Jungle & Sweet Child became radio hits, I became aware of them, but it wasn't until a guy in high school gave me a copy of the whole album and said "Those songs are ok, but listen to the rest of it". When I first heard songs like "It's So Easy" and "Out Ta Get Me", I never heard music with such attitude and anger (and profanity) and I immediatley knew I needed to hear more. It was also the first time that I knew I couldn't let my parents hear this. This music was for headphone use only! Then I started hanging with other guys that thought the same and they introduced me to a whole new world of music. It's been a downhill slide ever since then and I never got to thank them for it.

I was in my early teens and saw a program on PBS about Jimi Hendrix. I got into his music and as they say, the rest is history. My first ever real metal album was Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" when I was 16 or so.

The album that opened my eyes i'd have to say was Metallica's Black Album.

I was kicked out of my dad's house, and he stole all my old music, so I got a fresh start there.

I would have to say Kiss was my introduction to metal.I started hearing them at an early age.Also AC/DC,my older sister listened to them quite a bit.

Metallica - And Justice for All back in 1993, but I didn't really start to listen to metal until I was 11, again with Metallica, due to their radio hit Whiskey in the Jar (TL) Smile

Mine was Iron Maiden's Killers, Whitesnake's Ready an' Willing, and Judas Priest's Stained Class.

My Dad was a true metal head, and gave me those albums when i was about 5 -6, and i have never looked back.

He also gave me Judas Priest's Painkiller when it was a new release (jesus, i must have only been 6 when that was out . . . guess i started early), and that album had me hooked forever.

i still listen to Painkiller at least once a week. LOL

The first true thing in music that I liked is The Beatles. I started listening to Metal with KISS

Not sure how to answer that one. The first "hard" music I liked
was Pete Townsend's "Empty Glass". From there I started listening
to, and becoming a punk. So, the first "heavy" music would have
been Black Flag w/Dez, Minor Threat, and alot of local hardcore (The
Replacements, Husker Du, Urban Guerrillas, etc). But I guess the
album that made me metal for life (and turned me into everryone's
favorite uncle) was "Saxon - The Eagle has Landed".
