There discography post 1990 has been inconsistent for sure. It's hard to take it all as one "era" and hold it up to the early stuff. If one would eliminate clunkers and view post 1990 as C2E, Youthanasia, the system has failed, UA, Endgame, Dystopia... That's a pretty badass string of albums.

I think the first few albums up to RIP were more focused and had the style and sound Mustaine was known for. The later albums were too experimental and followed Metallica's Black album recipe for boring and predictable music "for the masses". Although he did start kicking it up a notch on Endgame and Dystopia.

1986-1990 easily - though I do like most of the later albums.

I like both actually but I think Rust In Peace, Youthanasia and System Has Failed are killer albums
