Hey i have a question.I noticed that so many metal bands looked all metal looking with leather, arm gaunlets, spikes, studs, and stuff in the early to mid 80s but by around 88-89 they no longer looked that way.Why do u all think they all abandoned that look?I love that metal look.

Jus a guess, but I think bands like Metallica and Anthrax made it "cool" to wear street cloths on stage. Before the onslaught of thrash metal in the mid-80's, heavy metal was the king of the scene and band's like Judas Priest were the role model for other bands.

Do you all remember for a spell in the late 80's when Bermuda shorts were the "in" thing in thrash circles?

I sure do, I bought like 20 pair because I saw Scott Ian wearing them all the time and...nevermind.

My conscience is clear, I never owned a single pair of Bermuda shorts. I did have a Judge Dredd t-shirt though.

The "Blue Oyster Bar" sequence from Police Academy didn't exactly help the perception of the Judas Priest look.

I love Anthrax for that, they were definately the more lighthearted of the big four...their appearance, even their song lyrics to a degree....pretty cool in my opinion.

I agree to a point. However I draw the line at Scott Ian shaving the word NOT into his chest hair.

We didn't call them bermuda shorts. We called 'em jams. And yes, I owned a pair or 2.

Last time I checked, black metal bands are still sporting the gauntlets and spikes and corpse paint and the up-side down crosses and hanging out in grave yards and all that other crap.

It never went away. People just stopped paying attention. The look of the spikes and gauntlets, bullet belts and such was always strong in the underground.

The jammer shorts fad was a joke. I guess that is why I had a hard time taking bands that wore them serious.

That brings back memories! They look like rejects from George Romero's Knightriders.

Yet on the March Of The Saint artwork, they have motorcycles, Japanese-looking motorcycles.
