| Ok, so i'm listening to Alice Cooper's messy (but good) 'Dragontown' album and noticed that the song 'Clowns Will Eat Me' has a melody which quite clearly 'borrows' directly from the classic 'You Really Got Me' by The Kinks. I find this sort of thing fascinating.
Any other examples you can think of in which artists have blatantly lifted from others?
'Washington is next' by the might 'Deth is another fine example with the unabashed 'Wasted Years' inspired riff.

Megadeth-When Yeah, that one is pretty similar. But wasn't it intentional? Megadeth and Metallica have some that are similar, excluding "The Four Horsemen" and "Mechanix." "FFF" borrows from "Motorbreath." "The God That Fails" has a similar pattern to "Dawn Patrol." There are some others that I can't think of right now. Doesn't "Crown of Worms" borrow from a song? U2 blatantly ripped off Therapy?, if you ask me. Compare: U2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhWZ7bpfQag Therapy?: http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/11/2139427/11%20Sister.mp3 Both main riffs and bass lines are nearly identical. The mellow mid-section is close. Therapy? may not be big in the US, but they are in Europe and Ireland. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, though. |

Yeah, I've noticed those. Crown of Worms sounds like "The Prince" by Diamond Head, but it was co-written by Sean Harris, so I'll let it slide.

| It's a simplistic riff, but Sodom's Nuclear Winter (1987) reminds me a lot of Slayer's Necrophobic (1986). Additionally, Sodom's Agent Orange (1989) rips off (not simply resembles) Megadeth's In My Darkest Hour (1988) and Sacred Reich's Death Squad (1987).
Iron Maiden's The Aftermath has a riff extremely similar to Wishbone Ash's Warrior.
When you speed up Sacred Blade's Of the Sun + Moon, you get something very similar to Megadeth's Holy Wars... the Punishment Due (1990).
Everyone picks on Arch Enemy for using the intro riff to Testament's Into the Pit (1988), but they took it from Ulysses Siren (1985).

Yeah, I've noticed those. Crown of Worms sounds like "The Prince" by Diamond Head, but it was co-written by Sean Harris, so I'll let it slide. And then 'Crown of Worms' also sounds like a song by MD.45, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. It makes sense that Dave used a very similar song structure though, because didn't 'Crown of Worms' only ever appear as a b-side (and on the remasters)? EDIT: I remember the MD.45 song now, it's 'Fight Hate'. More than a passing similarity. _________________

and Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell Whoa, after reading your post i went to Youtube to check them out; and they sound like a 'Heaven & Hell' cover band. These must be the most blatantly DIO-inspired vocals ever. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. Going to pick up their Of Son And Man album.

I don't hear that similarity in those two songs, though. Maybe the bass line, but litte else. |

| Artillery - The Cure from their comeback album B.A.C.K. has a riff that reminds me of Black Sabbath's Sadra Cadabra. Man, I forgot what a cool album that was. | |

| A couple songs that come to mind are Tesla's "Love Song" intro and "Dee" from the "Blizzard of Ozz" they both are their own songs but they sound real similar to me.
Also "You Can't Kill Rock and Roll"s intro sounds real similar to King Diamond's "Black Horsemen" from the "Abigale" album. I always thought these were songs that may have influenced the others.

Didn't he try to sue for that? He did, and if he won (which I doubt he will) it sucks for Coldplay 'cause they got so many awards for that song.
