Has anyone on this board listened to hammerfall's new album " no sacrifice, no victory"?
In its latest issue of March 2009, british mag Metalhammer gave it a solid 8 out of 10, stating that it "contains some of the band's strongest material to date". Is it that good? I usually hesitate when it comes to this band's music.

I just listened to this album on youtube to see if I want to get it and the song Hallowed be my name is worth the purchase alone. Pontus is amazing on guitar throughout the album and just lets the solos rip..

You're going to buy all 52(?) albums at once aren't you?

YES!! That's the current plan. I have two allowable outs:
1) Some sort of super-sale. If a wanted 2009 release can be had for $8 or less, I'm stupid to pass it up.
2)At a concert or on a vacation. The act of buying a cd(s) is part of the experience, but doesn't feed the internet shopping addiction.

I grabbed it opening day and really like it. It's in no way a departure from every other Hammerfall album, although, "Hallowed Be My Name" is truly a standout cut. Peace.

I just listened to "Hallowed be my Name" and you can color me unimpressed. I hear nothing more than a standard mid paced, going-nowhere chugger, with a continuous / repetitive drumbeat and thoughtless lyrics, topped off with an uninspired solo for the sake of having a solo. Hammerfall to me are the epitome of poppy cheese metal that follows the same formula and guidelines so closely that it borders on self plagerism and parody. I find it hard to believe they are able get away with reproducing the same stuff every few years and calling it a new album, without falling out of favor with its fans for its redundancy and irrelevance to the genre of metal as a whole.

HammerFall's been spinning their wheels since LEGACY OF KINGS IMO. If you like their other stuff you'll probably like this. But if you never dug'em before it probably won't turn you into a fan.

Firstly, Hammerfall help got me into power metal, so that easily has a factor in my opinion.
I first heard Any Means Necessary (which has a pretty epic chorus I must say), then Bring the Hammer Down (which has some charged up riffs in it also), One of a Kind and Legion are pretty upbeat tunes that keep my attention. Punish and Enslave has that "Let the Hammer Fall" kinda beat to it and retains it's epic value in the chorus. Hallowed Be My Name is also pretty good IMO.
I think the only tracks that haven't grabbed me within the first minute (but still were decent tracks IMO) are Life IsNow and No Sacrifice No Victory
Overall I'd rate this album a solid 8.5. - 9
