When he thought he could pull off the industrial rock thing he was giving metal the middle finger but when it tanked he wanted to be the "Metal God" again. Rolling Eyes

Metal-Rules.com: Going back to the TWO years, there was an interview that you have been famously quoted as saying that "metal is dead." Was there a defining moment that brought metal back to life for you again after the TWO project?

Halford: Oh well, that was an absolutely smurfing stupid thing for me to say. I was just so emotional that day. I can remember I was sitting on my tour bus outside of the Hollywood Palladium in L.A. and I think the TWO band was working with RAMMSTEIN that night and I was just in a smurfette mood (laughs). I said something which I…..you know, everybody has the freedom to be stupid and I was completely stupid that day. I've made amends in recent years about making that ridiculous comment. I think I was probably just reflecting on my own situation, frustrations that come with what you do and I think it was probably a Monday night, I don't particularly like Monday that much (laughs). Had it been Friday or Saturday, I'd have been in a different frame of mind. But I was just being a bit of a petulant rock star smurfette that afternoon, so there you go. It's all water under the bridge now.

I remember that interview. Cheesed a lotta people off. I have an old ish of Metal Edge with a Rob interview from the Two era in it, and he's quoted as saying something to the effect of "The old style metal, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden -- that's dead. The newer bands -- Nine Inch Nails, Limp Bizkit, Korn -- are the new sound of metal for the new millennium."

Well, in terms of what "the kids" liked and what was popular at the time, he was right...that was their "metal"....those were the bands taking over in the commercial arena at the time...just like KILLSWITCH ENGAGE & EVANESENCE & DISTURBED did in the last few years...to the new generation of kids, that's what "metal" is...

Yeah but he said it was dead. Big mistake on his part and he of all people should know better. Classic metal will die just like AC/DC doesn't sell records anymore.

The sad part is that NO ONE ever corrected them in what metal really was. I can and will blame the media for that!

Agreed. They are pushing the pseudo-metal artists on the labels that advertise with them. They are in it together.

Certainly "news" organizations play favorites. Just read Blabbermouth. Dave Mustaine and Megadeth has some sort of news item on that thing every single day.

"Dave Mustaine Checks In"

"New Megadeth Album "Promising"

"Mustaine's penis uncircumcised: Album plans still a go"

Gentlemen, detuned is right the media could careless what is considered metal but they do care what bands sell magazines, if Hit Parader thought putting Britny Spears on cover and could get away trying to sell her as metal artist believe me they would.

The reason Slipknot and any other band you care to name is on the cover is because that is what will generate sales for the demographics as opposed if they threw Judas Priest or Slayer which alot of younger metal fans see it as their daddy's metal bands.

Troublezone I live in Florida and I do not see any Latinos wearing Slayer or Iron Maiden shirts, but even so I doubt they would move as many magazines with them on the cover as opposed to Avenged Sevenfold. Those magazines are aimed at young novice metal fans who's history of the genre only go back as far as last week, not someone like yourself who has been listening to it most of their lives.

Anyway wearing a rock t shirt does not mean you have loyality or even aware of who the band is, at my son's high school some of his friends and peers wear AC/DC shirts and they don't even know who the band is, for proof see the Miley thread.

Well the key word is where i live (SoCal). They definately don't care about the latest Limp Bizkit or Korn as opposed to what their older brothers exposed them to, not the magazines. Even though there are exeptions.

Is Hit Parader even still around? I haven't seen that on a magazine stand in ages. I know Circus went buh-bye a couple of years back.

Either way, kids today don't read music magazines anyway... they're too busy downloading porno off the Internet. Laughing

I take your word on it, but when it comes to the media they could careless what is real metal, what they care about is what are hottest band that will help our ratings or sell magazines.

Most mags these days are off topic in a lot of ways like their fashion news or the hottest chicks in metal section. There really isn't much substance to the real music news anymore.
