Yeah, it seems like it doesn't take much for a band to loose Toho as a fan. It takes a radical departure from what I expect. I expected Kamelot to produce symphonic power metal not prog metal complete with growling. Therion is another example. I expected symphonic, operatic metal and got 70s prog rock. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Deep Purple-Come Taste the Band-Also overlooked and sole studio album featuring Tommy Bolin I feel is an excellent Purple disc. Bolin does not play, sound, look or write like Blackmore but it is a great album and was a great guitartist. I agree. Both are strong albums from great bands but probably suffer from being compared to the rest of each bands stellar catalogs. Peace.

| Deliverance - Intense Series Vol. 1 Everyone hated it. Reviewers didn't like it. I think it's great! It's live, loose and raw in the studio. Dig the Stryper cover and the extended guitar jams.
Iron Maiden - The X Factor A much darker record for Maiden. Didn't like it myself when it first came out. I like it now though. Still, not their best, but better than most people give it credit for.
Alice Cooper - Flush the Fashion Big turn towards New Age, but still plenty of rock n roll. I dig it. Love "Clones", even if it does sound like a Gary Numan song.
TT Quick - Sloppy Seconds Bad cover art. The music is a bit blusier than their EP or Metal of Honor, but still a great metal record IMO.
Saxon - Rock the Nations Not Saxon's finest hour. Party til you Puke? Gak! _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Iron Maiden-The X Factor (I agree with Ult. except I actually liked it when it came out) Dio-Lock Up The Wolves (my first Dio album and IMO it's better than it gets credit for. Same thing goes with Strange Highways. Manowar-Fighting The World (yes, the true metal warriors went in a radio friendly direction, but IMO they did a great job with it) | |

Gary Moore - Wild Frontier Not his best but still very good. The Loaner is worth the price alone. Van Halen - 3 Not their shining moment, but some damn good songs. How about Ballot or the Bullet. Iron Maiden - The X Factor and Virtual XI Blaze stepped in and everyone threw a fit. Sure they are different and dark, but cool. Different singer and a different sound. These two may not be the band's best, but they do not deserve all of the criticism they get.

Therion is another example. I expected symphonic, operatic metal and got 70s prog rock. Understandable, except I wouldn't call the sound Kamelot is using now prog, more like melodic metal (i.e. Allen-Lande, another band I know you didn't like) and there was only growling in the first song, the rest had none whatsoever (and none in Ghost Opera). If you think about it though, they have been drifting toward this sound for a while. After Fourth Legacy they changed little by little with each release. As far as Therion goes, they just wanted to do something different for a change. In an interview with Christofer Johnsson, he said: - Quote :
- Some loved it, others less. For us it was nice to try something different to what we have done the last 10 years.

| Anthrax - Stomp 442 Not their best, but has some good songs on it. I prefer Sound of White Noise or We Have Come for You All. I like the Bush-era of Anthrax and don't really understand why people rag on them so much.
Belladonna - Spells of Fear This one deserves all the negative remarks it receives. I'm a big Belladonna fan. Paid full price for this when it was first released. Tried and tried to enjoy it, but this CD just sucks!
S.O.D. - Bigger than the Devil Of course they weren't going to top Speak English or Die. How could they? This album has had such a cult following since it was released in the 80's. 15 years later, there was no way they were going to be able to overcome nostalgia. Still, not nearly as bad as people make it out to be and somewhat humorous too. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| A few I love that are looked down upon....
Paradox - Heresy
My favorite thrash album and for good reason. Take the best parts of Metallica and Anthrax and add a Crusades concept and you have this thrash masterpiece. This is one of the few albums that I have multiple copies of because I always have to have this one in my collection. Paradox = Thrash Metal
Trouble - The Skull
I was surprised when I read that there are people who do not like this record. I think its better than the debut. They experimented with longer songs on this one. Maybe that's what lost some of the earlier fans of the band. Trouble's "The Skull" is a textbook definition of underrated.
Onslaught - In Search of Sanity
So they went a bit mainstream on this one by getting rid of the "evil" lyrical approach and brought in Steve Grimmett to clean up the vocal department. Definitely one of my favorite thrash releases of all time.
Deicide - In Torment In Hell
All the elements are here that make Deicide great. The production isn't as great as the preceding albums, but this one is one of the first Deicide albums I would pull off the shelf if I were in a Deicide mood.
Dissection - Reinkaos
mc666 mentioned this one and I totally agree that this one is overlooked. "True" Dissection fans dismissed this one because it wasn't Storm of the Light's Bane Part II. It's still a better album than your band will ever produce. Yeah, I'm talking to YOU.
Testament - Souls of Black
So much better than the middle of the road, overrated "Practice What you Preach" album, Testament's "Souls of Black" is a killer, killer record. It's packed full of what makes Testament great. Give me this and "The New Order" over anything else the band produced.
Exodus - Impact Is Imminent
Exodus' best album, IMO. The production isn't thin for the first time. The band shines on this one.
Venom - Possessed
A band on its last creative leg produces an album that is thrown away by most Venom fans, but this fan loves it.
Venom - Calm Before The Storm
No Mantas = No Problem! Technically the best Venom album up to this point in their history. Also absent is the muddy production of their first 4 classic albums.
Flotsam & Jetsam - When The Storm Comes Down
I don't know of a more underrated or overlooked album. The production is better than "No Place" and the songs are structured similar to that album. So I don't understand how a fan of "No Place" couldn't love this one just as much.
