| Rush - 2112 The story of the title track, pretty cut and dried...futuristic soul-less society run by a religious dictatorship, dude finds guitar and is inspired, tries to share it with the world, the priests don't agree and smash the guitar, dude cannot live without music and kills himself. Simple enough...but one question: At the end of the song your hear "Attention all planets of the solar federation, we have assumed control". Who is saying this exactly? Is it a rebellious uprising against the priests because they killed the guy, is it the priests themselves...or did Rush just think it sounded cool to end the album that way? |

| I always thought it was the "Elder Race" returning and dethroning The Priests. Check out these lyrics from The Oracle section: - Quote :
They left the planets long ago The elder race still learn and grow Their power grows with purpose strong To claim the home where they belong Home, to tear the temples down... Home, to change..

| No kidding. A lot of the album themes I've figured out came thanks to an "altered mental state". I have a classic story about how a girlfriend and I spent an entire evening figuring out what was going on on Concrete Blonde's "Mexican Moon" album. Too bad I only remember about 1/4 of it but we sure had it figured out at the time. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I watched "Pink Floyd The Wall" once while tripping on acid, every single second made PERFECT sense, a completely revelatory experience...of course the next day I couldn't remember a damn thing I had learned from it. |

| Wow, I had a way more pessimistic view of that last part; I thought the bad guys won! Well, I suppose either way, it's still an awesome song. | |

You totally nailed it. It always struck me that if the character in the story hadn't committed suicide he wouldve lived to seen the Elders return. Lessoned learned... suicide is never an option !!! see Rush's song 'The Pass'.... | |
