Just came home, it was insanely great!!!!!! Short reviews:
THURSDAY:
17:00 – 17:45 BLITZKRIEG black stage
I missed them (too much people trying to get inside the festival area), but I saw them on friday in VIP / backstage area, they were pretty good, playing Electric Eye & Hell Bent for Leather and stuff.
19:45 – 21:30 SODOM black stage
Good show, with all the ex guitar players and drummers, but nothing extra good!
22:00 – 24:00 SAXON black stage
Well, I can't say that I saw them, cause I was fighting with some French girl in the straw them haha
23:00 – 24:00 OVERKILL hellfest stage
PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just great!!!!! If it wasn't for two new song from Immortalis and Necroshine, this would be the best show ever!! Not that these songs were bad, but just nothing in comparision with the rest: Rotten to the Core, Elimination, Thanx for Nothing, In Union We Stand, Wrecking Crew, Old School & F*** You (and probably 1 more, but I can't remember right now ...)
FRIDAY:
12:00 – 12:45 AMORPHIS true stage
Missed them.
15:00 – 16:00 POSSESSED black stage
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeff was in the wheelchair, but banging all the time, the rest of the band was great as well, well played, and the vocals just like on the albums!!! The Exorcist, Pentagram, The Heretic, Tribulation, Holy Hell, Death Metal .... great in every single way!!
16:15 – 17:15 GRAVE DIGGER true stage
I watched them for first 2 songs, but they had such an awful sound that I went back to backstage (yup, I had the VIP ticket hehe
) - there was Blitz, drinking beer with everyone else, and drunk Schmier from Destruction, and Sabina from Holy Moses (wearing the same old denim jacket that she did 20 years ago + she looks better than 95% of 25-year old girls
), even Oscar from Hammerfall, dressed like Jamie Oliver and stuff..
17:40 – 18:25 SABBAT wet stage
Another awesome gig - maybe even better than in april. They didn't play The Best of Enemies and I for an Eye now, but they did The Church Bizarre!
21:15 – 22:45 BLIND GUARDIAN true stage
Solid, not bad, but I expected more ...
00:30 – 01:45 ICED EARTH true stage
Well, nothing special here either, maybe a little disappointment, Ripper was great, but I don't know. Big pros was Stormrider, which was sung by John!
SATURDAY:
12:50 – 13:50 SACRED REICH true stage
I didn't expect for Sacred Reich to be THAT good!!!!! They even did the Black Sabbath cover, Phil was totally happy (and totally fat and unrecognizable - as he said: "I'm old, I'm fat, I don't give a smurf poo!")
Great set list as well, Death Squad, Ignorance, One Nation, Surf Nicaragua, Love Hate, The American Way, Crimes Against Humanity, Who's to Blame ... !
17:15 – 18:15 RAGE true stage
They played with that orchester thing, I watched 2-3 songs, but it wasn't anything special ...
18:45 – 20:00 DESTRUCTION black stage
Another great Destruction show, this time with all the ex-member (Excpet the 90s era). They did The Alliance of the Hellhoundz with Blitz, Peavy from Rage, Angelripper, and the guy from Communic!
20:15 – 21:30 TYPE O NEGATIVE true stage
I missed them.
21:45 – 23:00 STORMWARRIOR + KAI HANSEN party stage
I saw a couple of songs, but without Kai at that time - very good German power / heavy metal!!
22:35 – 23:20 MUNICIPAL WASTE wet stage
This was insane!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't how many crowd surfers went through their show, but the number of security guards changed from 3 to 15 during their show
Also, watching 120kg guy stage diving through the 3m hole between stage and the audience - a very memorable thing!!!
00:45 – 01:45 CANNIBAL CORPSE black stage
I saw 2-3 songs, Cannibal Corpse as Cannibal Corpse.
I also saw Holy Moses press conference, and we forced them to play Too drunk to F***, which was great as well!!
Didn't find Laaz Rockit or Vulture, the only Overdrive disc I saw was Hammerhawk for like $30, but I didn't have moeny then ... I found the same guy as last year, and it was for the first time that I actually hold original version of Evil Invaders in my hands - for 69 EUR!! (that's almost $100). He also had Jersey Dogs CD for 35 EUR ?!?
Well, that's it, I'm going to sleep now
