No idea, but I've been listening to the band longer than I knew the origin of their name.

We were coming home from the drag races in Pomona and "Ricky Don't Lose That Number" came on KCAL FM. The DJ sad that was "blah blah blah, the new single from Steely Dan. My ol man. laughs and sad, "that is slang for what fruits stick up their butts"
The imagnation of a nne year old took a few seconds to figure out what he was talkin about. One of my sisters kicked down the 45 to me, great tune.

A rare live performance from 1973 on The Midnight Special. (Steely Dan would become a studio-only band shortly after this, although they returned to the stage in the late 90s).
It's hilarious how the camera crew focuses on the wrong guitarist throughout the entire performance.

Aja is the GREATEST non-rock/metal album of the 70s. GREATEST. I used to sit in my chaise lounge in my apt, mix martinis and smoke American Spirits while playing this vinyl over...and over...and over...
