I live in the DC area and you would think it's the second coming of Christ around here...
I don't think anyone with half a brain wants him to fail (I sure don't and I didn't vote for the guy) and I sure has heck don't want a replay of the carter years....

Not that those were good, but what about the last 4-6 years???? The Carter years would actually feel welcome in comparison.

Oh, I'm sure that's only the beginning. Watch for the official Obama collector's coin set, the official Obama model Blackberry, the official Michelle Obama clothing line, and the monthly "Obama and Spider-Man" comic book series, all coming to a store near you!

I find the trend to turn his Presidency into a cult of personality distrubing, their is already a collector's plate (who buys these things anyway?), a minted coin and other items up for sale, I understand why it is historically important but they (whoever they are) need to scale back on these items, in case they have not heard their is a RECESSION going on!!!!

I do agree that the cult of personality going on is troubling.... As I said, you;d think it was the second coming around the DC area. Judging by the sheer number of oboma clothing on display that the airport when I flew out, I am willing to bet these comanies making this obama stuff will not suffer too much during the recession

I think the Obama team during the campaign made expectations really unattainable and now are having to backpeddle given a little dose of reality. Its much easier to float campaign slogans and demonize Bush than to actually govern.

I agree with this.
I also agree with joker in that only a fool would want the newly elected president to fail.
That said, the way the media is depicting Mr. Obama as the savior of the country is actually probably doing the man more of a disservice than helping him. Continuing to lionize a man who in all actuality has done little on the national political landscape only serves to raise the expectations of the Sheeple even higher. Cult of Personality is great for getting one elected; it's not quite as valuable once in office.
Let's just back off and see what the man can do now that he's in office. Both conservative and liberal sides need to shut up and observe. Let's formulate opinions after at least the first 100 days.

I agree with your statements toho,in regards that both sides of political arena need to give him a chance, I voted for the guy and I am happy he won, I just do not like to see my President marketed like a KISS action figure, whether it is Obama or if McCain had won or anyone else.

I
I agree to an extent. I think it is right to wish obama success and wisdom but I do believe it is patriotic and necessary to oppose him when he is doing stuff that is not in the best interests of the country. People look aghast right now when someone criticizes obama. Funny thing is the same people people enjoyed their freedom of speech to criticize Bush.
I think Obama's stimulus plan is laughable at best. Most of his plans wont do anything immediate as the Congressional Budget Office points out. The effects of all this money he is intended to spend wont be seen until 2011/12. Most economists say the recession should be over 4q 09 or early 2010. Spending money isnt the answer. The FDR figured that out after 7 years of trying to do that in response to the great depression. Many people forget it was WWII that transformed the US economy, not FDR.
the answer is to get money back into the hands of those who earned it. Spend the money earmarked for bailouts on covering FICA and SocSec and give people several months of no federal tax Give people money and let them buy cars, tvs, cds. Then the economy will pick up.

We are hosed right now - we need to do something to get the economy moving again, unfortunately it;s all deficit spending. FDR did it to get our of the great depression - his middle initial stood for defict, lol! They are talking about a one trillion dollar deficit for the next few years, that is insane!!!!!!!
Obama promised way too much during the election, he can't deliver on all he promised. Plato or arostotal once said democracy will fail when you promise to give too much away - I hope we don;t get that way.
He's also now probably realizing how serious the terrorist threats are, judging by his speechs.

unfortunately FDR didnt realize his spending spree didnt do any good to the economy. It was WWII that pulled us out of the depression. I wish someone in the Obama administration would point out that fact. No country has ever been able to spend its way out of a recession. Japan has been trying to do it for the last several years (they have had 8 stimulus packages to no avail).

but dont forget Obama proclaimed himself as a NEW type of politician and would bring all this wonderful change. He setup himself up as an example as to how things should be done. Let him live up to it. You cant run on being a agent of change and then when elected and reality sets in backpeddle...

I'll be quick.
NO SINGLE PERSON can save this economic catastrophe we're in, I don't care if Jesus himself came back and took over the job.
No matter what good intentions any President has, Congress will find a way to f*ck it up.
The guy has been in the job for a week, shall we maybe give him some slack?
