Lars is an Offspring fan? That's it?? I was hoping he'd say "I like to commit acts of adultery with farm animals" or something.

I like lots of non-metal bands. Nothing wrong with being an Offspring fan, although I myself am not one.

Lots of metalheads like or have an appreciation for The Offspring, for some reason. You'll find that they're probably the most popular pop-punk (or post-grunge, whatever they're categorised as) band among metalheads.

About a quarter of my music collection isn't metal.

i always had Lars pegged as a fan of brutal death metal, pagen black metal, & porno-goregrind. go figure.

Liking Offspring doesn't mean anything. I love Kiss, Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and 70's bands like that. I've said that over and over again through the years. I've admitted to liking S.F.C. and Public Enemy. However, you don't hear that in any of Ultimatum's music. Just because he is a fan of Offspring doesn't mean that Metallica will write songs like Offspring.

Besides, Metallica have always been fans of punk. Look at their cover albums. They've covered Anti-Nowhere League, The Misfits, among others. Cliff Burton was a big fan of punk.

And let it be known, The Offspring have some silly radio hits, but they're a great punk band.

Metallica sounding like Offspring would actually be an improvement over ST ANGER.

Didn't he claim to love Oasis at one point as well? And I don't recall hearing any of their influence on Metallica albums. Meh. He can listen to polka music for all I care.

Nothing wrong with liking music outside the confines of metal at all.

However, I wonder what Lars' favorite current real metal bands are.

Honestly, he needs to take this time he is using doing interviews and learn to play drums consistently again.

Sorry, I should have said "good" Metallica albums.

It shouldn't matter what other bands listen to. Although I will say it occasionally has an affect. I understand that musicians often play what they hear and it often comes out in writing new music.

However, I have NOT been a Metallica fan since 1988/89, so they can write whatever they want. I'm not buying it.

On the other hand, musicians need a break from constant metal. I listen to a lot of other things other than metal.
