Last night's show was awesome!
My brother and I got there just in time, as Children of Bodom were finishing the last song of their set. Within 20 minutes, the curtains fell and Megadeth opened with "Sleepwalker", which leads me to my one complaint of the show: not only were their amps too quiet, the drums were WAY too quiet. If there's one thing I love about Megadeth, it's the heavy use of double-bass. Well, it couldn't be heard like it should've been. If you know what you were listening for, you heard it. But, to other, more unfamiliar, fans, the double-bass wasn't very audible.
Other than that slight complaint, the rest of the show was awesome. The set list was great. The band had a nice balance of material over the years, with an emphasis on Rust In Peace, Countdown, and United Abominations. The new material sounded great live, particularly Washington's Next. The Rust In Peace material was phenominal! "Take No Prisoner" had the place jumpin'. There was such a buzz going around my section as "Holy Ways" neared. They nailed every note of that song. The best song of the set was probably "Ashes In Your Mouth". I've always loved that song, but the heaviness of the live environment, combined with the more technical nature of the song, revealed the true power of the song. Actually, all of the Countdown material sounded wicked heavy. Banging my now twisted neck to "In My Darkest Hour" was one of my favourite concert experieces so far.
I wasn't on the floor, but I could see in the pit no problem. There was actually very little action. There was only a very very small pit. A lot of the floor people seemed to waste their prime spot. I was jammed in between my brother and some HUGE guy, and I remained on my feet and bangin' throughout the show (except for "Trust").
Dave kept the talk to a minimum, and usually didn't even break in between songs; they would go immediately into the next tune. It was like a fast-track concert. Oh, and it had to of been over 40 degree C in there. All in all, awesome show!
On the bus ride back to our hotel, some drunk adolescent girl threw up, and the driver almost kicked everyone off. I don't know why, but we all started chanting MEGADETH, MEGADETH, MEGADETH!!!!
