| I see the R & R Hall of Fame has listed it's definitive top 200 albums of all time. There is a list like this that comes out every now and again. What bothers me is that the top metal album is always, always, always, every time; a Zepplin album. Now there is a case to be made for Zepplin as the greatest metal band; but it should no longer be the default position that it was in 1975 or so. There is a good (or better) case to be made for several other bands at least (for me Sabbath has ended up being much more influential on subsequent metal). What these "critics" lists are actually saying is that Zepplin is the favorite metal band of Jazz, Country, Pop, Hip-hop, etc, etc, etc, critics; most of whom know nothing about Metal. I like Zepplin, but I'm sick of these mindless polls! I think Deep Purple Machine Head wasn't even in the top 200, but Pearl Jam was #11. Wow. | |

| no one within the metal community pays any attention to what the Hall Of Fame & mainstream media thinks. it's been obvious that they still do not understand metal & probably never will. _________________ | |

True. The Hall of Fame (along with Rolling Stone magazine) are fried, burnout former hippies who believe the music scene never consisted of heavy metal. What always sticks in my craw is the denial of KISS in the Hall. Love or hate them, you cannot deny what they've done for the music scene. They meet every criteria for entry yet never get any mention. (Hell, look how long it took Black Sabbath to get in)

| the rock and roll hall of fame is a joke. they've overlooked kiss, rush and alice cooper when those 3 bands have all had a huge impact on rock/metal while a load of crap have been put in | |

Could not have said it better myself. :metal: - Quote :

Deep Purple's Machine Head is one of the defining albums of 1970's heavy metal IMO. Pearl Jam doesn't even belong in a heavy metal list at all. | |

| I could be wrong, but from my perspective Zepplin hasn't been a major influence in metal since the demise of the David Coverdale scene. Sabbath and Priest continue to be huge influences on the evolution of metal. Others more than Zepplin too now. (Metallica, Soundgarden, Slayer?). I'm not saying that country and hip-hop critics need to get hip to Slayer, I'm just saying I wish they would quit wasting time on these silly lists. | |

| Making a true, accurate list of the top 200 is so hard. All these clowns do is pander to the mainstream mindset. This is why Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day makes it on top 10 "guitarists" lists, or the chick drummer from The White Stripes gets voted "best drummer." What? This is how the mainstream works. Who cares? It's pointless and nonsensical. And for the record, the best guitarist ever is obviously Steve Clark (RIP, homey), and the best drummer ever is Rick Allen! |
