60's 1. The Rolling Stones/Beatles 2. The Who 3. Led Zeppelin (1 album constitutes at least a mentioning for the decade)

70's 1. Led Zeppelin 2. The Doobie Brothers 3. Aerosmith 4. Queen 5.Van Halen 6. Cheap Trick 7. The Baby's 8. Deep Purple 9. Bad Company 10. Steely Dan

80's 1. Journey 2. Van Halen 3. Survivor 4. Night Ranger 5. 38 Special
90's 1. Damn Yankees 2 Bad Company

I tried to limit my choices to exclusively Rock 'N Roll bands. If they were even the least bit alternative, progressive or metal, I didn't include them.

My all-time favorite is Aerosmith. I personally think that every album of theirs is good, even Rock In A Hard Place (an underrated record if there ever was one). So for the 70s, 80s, & beyond, I'll list my second favorite band from each decade, as Aerosmith tops them for me.

50s: Chuck Berry, with Elvis also there.
60s: The Beatles, then probably Jimi Hendrix.
70s: Led Zeppelin.
80s: Metallica.
90s: Soundgarden.
00s: Hmmm...tough one. There's a lot of good bands, & also a lot of not-so-good bands. Mastodon would have to get the top slot.

Iommi himself said they are hard rock. They invented metal but they were only a hard rock prototype.

70s - Slade / Van Halen
80s - Def Leppard / Van Halen

(wasn't sure which one Van Halen best belonged in, so I put 'em in both )

90s - Quireboys or Harem Scarem I suppose. I actually had to look at my CD collection for this one, and I apparently don't have much from that decade.

Sabbath "is" metal but some say they are heavy, hard rock too so... i just decided to include them in my choices.
