There are so many classic albums, but not all of them are solid gold all the way through. There are those classics that oddly have one or two bad (or at least awkwardly out of place) songs. For instance, I've always found that "Rat Salad" didn't flow very well in Sabbath's Paranoid. It's a cool tune, but I don't think it suits the rest of the album (it should have been on the first album).

What classic album duds can you guys think of?

Wrathchild America-Climbin the Walls had a couple of songs I could have done without. No Deposit No Return and Hernia. Everything else ruled.

I never liked Van Halen's version of "Ice Cream Man" from day one. I guess most people like it though.

Actually any of Dave's choices for covers don't work, in my opinion.

"Got the Time" off of Persistence of Time is completely out of place on such a dark album.

I was never crazy about "Escape" on Metallica's RIDE THE LIGHTNING.

I disagree. I found the original, non-censored "These Boots" to be amusing and in tone with the rest of the album - Dave made it his own. I also thought "I Ain't Superstitious" came off really well, even if a bit tongue-in-cheek. Hmm, I guess I just generally like Megadeth covering other bands, now that I think about it.

As for the actual topic, I know a lot of people who would argue "Dawn Patrol" on Rust In Peace is a major dud. I personally think the song is an awesome little interlude, but then again, I like Megadeth's covers!

I never had a problem with any of MegaDave's cover choices, but I'm a Megafan-boy, so I'm a little partial.

As for duds, I've always hated "United" by Judas Priest on an otherwise classic album. I know that they were going for a nice "we're all Metal Brothers united together" anthem, but it just sounds too forced and I almost always hit the skip button on that track.

I always thought Ozzy's, Goodbye to Romance, was awkward.

I love that song! angry

-- Which is funny cuz Metallica have never been crazy about that song either. They've gone on to admit that "Escape" was an unsuccessful, half-assed attempt at writing a radio-friendly song. I actually felt validated when I read that they don't like it either. Laughing

Yea that song had a great chorus I thought. My least favorite off that album is Trapped Under Ice.

I love some of the inclusions here, espacially the Stryper and Ozzy nominees. I however detest:

Iron Maiden - Back In The Village (Ppwerslave)

That's a great song. There is a clunker on that album, but it's Pain and Pleasure, in my opinion.

Anyways:
Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith - Heavy Duty
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast - Gangland
