Love his 2 solo albums, so much so that i think their Phil's greatest musical achievements Lizzy included.
Phil's best songwriting (a compliment none greater since the guy is imo the greatest storyteller in music along with Ian Hunter) soundtracked by a variety of blues, ballads, rock n' roll, R&B, Motown, new wave, funk and folk sounds some on their own and some blended brilliantly.
2 of the best records ever made full stop. With The Philip Lynott Album just pipping Solo In Soho as the best.

I like them a lot. I don't like them more than classic Thin Lizzy though.
I also like the stuff Phil did after Thin Lizzy. Some of the Grand Slam demos were released officially on CD not long ago if you haven't heard them.
There is also a great 2-CD live collection called "Live in Sweden 1983".

I *love* Solo in Soho, but The Philip Lynott Album never blew up my skirt all that much.

Bump. I know there's alot of Lizzy fans on this board. You gotta go out and get his first 2 solo records, so brilliant and underrated.

Solo in Soho is great, except for a couple tunes. I never got into the second album much though.

Yeah Trog doesn't like the second album as well. Has some of his best songwriting on it imo. 'Old Town' is a top 5 Phil Solo/Thin Lizzy song easily and 'Fatalistic Attitude', 'Don't Talk About My Baby', 'Growing Up' etc. are brilliant.

It doesn't do much for me. Yes, the songwriting is good, but some guitars would improve it greatly. In and of itself, there's just not that much there, IMO.

I love both albums but they don't top Lizzy. Grandslam was good too.
