Uriah Heep to me was a band that was kinda on the back heels of Deep Purple/Black Sabbath. Truely a great band that didn't really get the respect the deserved back then!

I really liked the Abominog era too. And I think an underrated album was from the early 90's I think it was called "Sea of Light" (sorry, brain fart goin' on).

Much respect for the HEEP. Obviously, the classic Byron era is my favorite, followed closely by the Lawton years, and I'm with SAHB on the Abominog era (see my avatar) - "The Way That it is" is one of my favorite songs of all time!

How did you get them to put your face on their album? Or is that your dad or your uncle or somebody. Looks just like you anyway.

So have you heard the Graham Bonnet version of T.W.T.I.I. that came out a year ot two earlier? It almost sounds the same to me.
John Lawton is a great singer & Firefly is an excellent album IMHO. My favorite Byron era album is Live 73' They play a smokin' version of "Gypsy"

Great band! Way too many members over the years. I really like the Demons and Wizards album along with Innocent Victim, Abominog and The Magician's Birthday.

Nope, haven't heard or even heard of that version. Where can it be found?

Yep, Lawton is definitely cool. You must have heard his previous band LUCIFER'S FRIEND then, eh? The s/t debut sounds pretty dang close to HEEP to my ears.

Graham's solo album right after Rainbow was called "Line Up" That was one of the tracks on it. Cozy Powell Drums, Micky Moody guitar, Jon Lord Keys & Gary Twigg bass.

I have several Lucifer's friend's cd's/LP's & I agree the 1st album is very HEAVY sounding. A great album cover too! I'm a big fan of John's & his work with Rebel/Zar is worth checking out. Scorpion's sounding band if your into that.

Uriah Heep great band and I have always wondered if Queen were influenced by Uriah Heep, due to the way Queen used vocals in their music

They were contemporaries though, and a lot of bands did similar stuff back then.

Uriah Heep are a terrific band to this day I don't think I've heard a bad Heep tune
They also had some of the best album covers I've seen
I think these two speak for themsleves

I saw them in a small club in N.C. back in 85, that had to be the Abominog tour, or close to it, great show!

manny, you're right about Abominog! Great 80's hard rock sound.
I really like Look At Yourself as well. This is definitely my type of band. Although I can't help but draw a parallel with Deep Purple in the 70's and Rainbow a bit in the 80's. Perhaps I'm way off base.

No I don't think you are off base comparing Uriah Heep to Deep Purple. The major differences is that Mick Box, while he is not a bad guitartist, he is no Ritchie Blackmore. The other difference, at least with the original era (David Byron years) is that Uriah Heep's use of vocals made them the Beach Boys of Heavy Metal.

There's nothing wrong with Mick Box. He's in my top twenty guitarists, for sure.

I don't think their is anything wrong with Mick Box either, hell he has managed to have a professional career as a guitarist for close to 40 years. I guess what I should have said in relation to the comparison to Ritchie Blackmore his that as far styles that both men are night and day.
In Uriah Heep, at least from 1970 to 1980, the main creative force was not Mick Box but keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Ken Hensley, who wrote or co wrote most of the material during that time period. I believe since 1980 Mick Box's has taken on that role.
