| There are a lot... Many of them simply don't profess their faith.

| I read an interview around this time last year where Tom Araya was supposed to be doing a christian metal project with somebody (from some reason, I'm thinking someone from Living Sacrifice, but I don't know where that idea comes from) - does anyone know anything about this? | |

Tom Araya fronting a christian band It also would've been commercial suicide not only for Slayer, but probably also for Living Sacrifice as well. I doubt that either camp of fans would've been happy with such a collaboration. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

It's a nice refutation of the "Christians don't belong in Metal" nonsense when I find that some great musician in an excellent band is a believer. It's also nice to know you have a bond of some sort with someone whose music you enjoy.

| I can understand why some people would be hostile towards christians in metal, especially black metal, but fact is that a lot of christian metal bands kick ass, and life's too short to deny myself of such pleasure purely out of principle. There's an awesome Acer song called 'Lord of Love', with lyrics that say something like 'Lord of loooove never surrenders'. This totally conflicts with my personal beliefs, and will give a fall impression to other people listening, but who cares? It's a great song. I like Stryper, Vengeance Rising, Ultimatum, Mortification - who cares if I don't like their message? I don't like national socialism either, but that's not gonna stop me listening to Burzum and Graveland. And Vomitorial Corpulence rules | |

| I guess certain members of Threshold and Killswitch Engage would fit into this category.
But, what really makes one a "Christian" in today's world? If you say you are one, does that really make you one? I mean, if Dave Mustaine could deny the Holy Trinity and call himself a Christian, is he really one? I wouldn't say so. I guess in a sea of twenty-three thousand plus Protestant denominations, anything is possible these days.
My point is, I am so over who is or who is not Christian. It doesn't make the music any better or any worse. As long as the music is heavy and interesting, I could gives a rats ass what anyone of them believes or practices in their private lifes. Unless it's just blatantly anti-Christian like Deicide and Marduk, i'll listen to them.

| Ultimatly it doesn't matter to me who is a Christan and who is not in the music I listen to, I listen to all kinds. I just find it interesting to find out someone is a Christian who I would not otherwise have expected. Prime example of this is Nicko McBrain. When I read Run To The Hills I noticed how Nicko was the wild child party animal of the group. He was the last person in metal I would have expected to be a Christian (apart from Alice Cooper). Also as Louder said, it's "nice to know you have a bond of some sort with someone whose music you enjoy."
It does actually make me feel better for one main reason: It is a way to bring the message out of the sub-culture known as CCM. When I became a Christian I was convinced that the only place a Christian could be accepted in the music world is in CCM. I later read a book that changed my perspective on that. I realize that staying in your own little community of believers does little to advance the gospel because you end up preaching to the choir. Jesus didn't just preach in the synagogues to the rabbis, he went everywhere and talked with tax collectors, prostitutes, basically the dredge of society. As he said, "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick." (Matthew 9:12 KJV) With more and more people of the Christian faith getting mainstream attention (and even appearing in well established bands) we are moving away from being the Amish of the music world and reaching more and more people. Instead of being seen as squeky clean, boring puppets that sing Koombia and hand out pamplets at the mall in our spare time people start to realize many of us are regular people with talents and gifts worthy to be shared with the world. If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound? On the same token: If the gospel is preached and no unbelievers hear it, does anybody get saved?

| An excerpt from markprindle.com's (self-professedly lame!) interview with Tom Araya:
Did you have trouble back in the beginning with Christian groups and things like that?
We used to. We used to have picketers and people - we still do; it's just not like it used to be.
Do you believe in the Christian myths? Or is it more -
"In the Christian myths?"
Well.. (laughs) I do, yeah. Catholic I was raised. I was born and raised Catholic. |
