| I find it interesting that there is so many Christians (like on these boards) that listen to heavy music and often it has very offensive lyrics to the avergae Christian/Religious person. Why is it we don't get bothered by that stuff compared to our friends, etc that don't listen to heavy music? |

Im a christian. as far as offensive lyrics go, there are christians who listen to secular and those who dont. there are non-christians who listen to non-offensive music and those who do. IMO its a person to person, case-by-case thing. and as far as the Ned Flanders reference made earlier in the thread, its sad but most of the world gets its learning about christianity by the Simpsons, Mad TV, SNL, etc...or even tabloids. I would assume that most people are smarter than to mistake what the media sells the public as truth. just my $.02.

Well, there is Christian metal. Also, the whole "Satan" thing in metal is not meant to be taken seriously. Even the musicians who perform that type of metal will tell you that. Some of the most religious people I've ever met enjoy metal music. Likewise, some of the most anti-religious people you'll come across are as against metal as the "Won't somebody please think of the children?" types.

| Christian. I attend a non-denominational church. I don't have a problem with denominations as long as they preach from the Bible. When they start going off on tangents and coming up with wild interpretations other than what the Bible really says, that is where I have problems with denominations. | |

Very true on the Christian metal part, some fantastic Christian metal bands! I guess it just seems that overall the Christians that listen to metal or modern metal styles seem to have a higher level of tolerance on lyrical content then non metal lovers. I have just found that interesting the more I notice it. But yeah, the satan thing... It makes me laugh a lot. It's mostly for 'shock value'. Nirvana was even quoted as saying, "I'm just waiting for some right-wing Christian group to deem the record satanic. That would really move some units." In referance to In Utero.

Actually I know some very religious fans of The Simpsons, and they love Ned Flanders' character. He is seen as a "Christian icon" by some. The goalie for the Colorado Avalanche, Peter Budaj, is a very religious man in his personal life, and has Ned Flanders painted on the back of his mask.

| I consider myself more of a "Zen Agnostic."
I suspect there is something out there, due to some of the supernatural experiences of my youth; but I would not be arrogant enough to try to put my name or face upon it. In this respect, I prefer the Joseph Campbell view...
Or better yet, the Charles Fort view: If it's out there...it's probably really, really weird.

| I guess I'd be considered Non Denominational. I believe in God but I don't belong to any specific religious group. |
