In the nineties, this is what I was listening to. Bad Religion, Misfits, and Black Flag. I still listen to everything but the Misfits. Anyway, Bad Religion was in my stereo almost everyday in the nineties. They have a seriously infectious brand of punk pop that I can't get enough of.
If you dig 'em, what is your favorite album of theirs? Mine is probably The Grey Race. It's not in part of their "classic sound" but I just love that album from front to back.
Thoughts on this band?

The snippets I've heard on Epitaph Records comps....I like a lot!
During my 90's punk phase I dug into the past and Minor Threat were hands down my favorite. Just awesome. I can't listen to them anymore because they cuss too much for my liking but they were great. I like Pop-punk MxPx and Green Day. Crashdog - Fashists, Cashists and othe Fungus pleases me and my favorite remains Crux - Failure To Yield which I think still stands up well in the Punk crowd....

i always thought they were one of the weakest of the punk groups. no aggression or attitude whatsoever. just watered down commercial pop punk.

Never really listened to'em other than the songs that wound up on the radio in the early 90s, so I can't really comment.
I'm just curious why you no longer listen to the Misfits, Spec?

Other then the misfits these guys are the only punk band i like.
Fav song from them is Infected and its off my fav cd from them Stranger than Fiction. I had the Grey Race and a few other cds i cant remember what they were. I like there style without the fast punk beats like the song Goin for a walk, The Defense, they are nowhere near pop punk, they've been making punk rock for over 20 years and in my eyes are one of the most important punk bands that exist.

I got burnt out on them terribly. In fact, I stopped listening to punk for a few years because I honestly listened to punk/hardcore almost exclusively from about 1997-1999. When I got back into the bands, I couldn't listen to the Misfits anymore. I can't even listen to Danzig. I still like them, I just can't listen to them.

Ahh, gotcha. I can sorta relate. I cant' listen to Danzig much anymore either, cuz for about a year his first three albums were the soundtrack to my life. I burned myself out on him.
Still love me some Misfits though.

Just read up on G.G. Allin's bio (as I'd never heard of him). What a freak! He had a wierd, rough childhood so he hardly stood a chance, it seems.
Many of his behaviors were truly disgusting.....

Bad Religion aren't one of my fav punk bands but they're listenable. "How Could Hell Be Any Worse" (generally regarded as their best) as well as "Suffer" and "No Control" (both from the late 80s) are good records. Nothing spectacular. However they made a huge misstep in '83 with "Into the Unknown" -- horrible synth and keyboard prog rock album. Don't get me wrong, I like stuff like that but not Bad Religion doing it. It wasn't their thing and they did it quite horribly on top of that.

Yeah, he truly is one of the most dispicable human beings to ever live. He was simply nothing but shock-rock and that's fine. Alice Cooper did it. So did many artists. But the problem was that he tried to justify the horrible and disgusting things he did on stage which just made him look like a buffoon. If you look on YouTube there's an old episode of Jerry Springer on there (back when Jerry had real topics) where G.G. is the guest and he really proves he's a complete jackass. I mean raping women and eating his own feces.... really, now.
With that said, his music IS quite catchy.
But I'd never call myself a fan.

I don't like Bad Religion. When it comes to punk, my favorite bands are: Misfits, D.I., Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Black Flag (early stuff), The Exploited, FEAR, Ramones, Iggy & The Stooges, and of course, the Godly G.G. ALLIN!

D.I. and Fear are two of my favorites too. A shame they barely get mentioned.

Bad Religion always got on my nerves. Like mc666 said, they really just sound like a watered down, pop-punk band. The vocals were what annoyed me the most...they just sound like all the other "pop-punk", "Emo", or modern pop-rock bands out there...that whiny, pre-teen yammer...ergh, i just hate those vocals

are we talking about the same band here? This guy sounds like none of these pop punk bands singers. He actually has a different voice and thats y i like em. Pop Punk bands are MXPX, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Green Day, Goldfinger, Less Then Jake, Bad Religion sound nothing like any of those bands imo.
Bad religion started in 1980 and is is one of the few bands credited for the punk revival in the late 1980's

Yes, I realize that. Maybe I have not heard enough, but songs like "American Jesus" and "Let them eat War" have those whiney yammers, that really does just sound like a goat in pain.

Dude, there is nothing whiney about the way Greg sings. Not a thing. Please stop with the metaphors.
Not whiney at all.

Don't apologize. You don't have to like them. Haha. I just think calling them whiney is like saying the sky is green. I don't even think it's arguable. Whiney is the turd from Blink 182, you know?
