This is one of my favorite female fronted metal albums of all time (right up there with Velvet Darkness They Fear). The music is heavy, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, spooky, and infectious. I absolutly LOVE the vocals of the late Dawn Crosby, her banchee like wail and downright evil screams make her a one of a kind female vocalist whose equal I've never heard (if King Diamond is the king of spooky metal than Dawn was definatly the queen). What are some thoughts on (IMO) one of the classics from the early 90's?

I really liked it when it came out, but haven't heard it since the mid-nineties.

I like it a lot too. Not a frequent player by any means, but when I do pop it in, it sounds great!

I don't think I've heard of this band. What style are they? Classic metal like King Diamond? I'm all over it if so ...

Read Ult's review of it. Their sound was unique and very hard to describe.

Hey, screw you, mc666! Not everyone knows about the search feature! Butt out!
How come Toxic Voodoo doesn't get much love? I didn't pick up Within The Veil until I joined lala (thanks, Ult!), so I had Toxic Voodoo for over ten years at that point. It's absolutely killer! Within The Veil is not what I expected; it's a much more creepy album, slower than Toxic Voodoo by about a half. Still awesome, though. But yeah, Toxic Voodoo gets no love from most quarters it seems.
And Dallas, check out this band:
Let it play for a bit. It's a different kind of band, but when it slows down this chick sounds almost identical to Dawn. Cool band either way.

That's interesting thought eyesore. I tend to like Within a lot more than Toxic, and I'm known for always going for the faster stuff. I need to refresh my memory with those two albums, I dont think Within was so slower, but I may be wrong. It's a crushing album though!
Did you guys see that Detente has reformed and will play HOA festival this summer in Germany? Dawn's replacement is Ann Boleyn
Is this Opera X on the clip? I had the misfortune of encountering them for first time with an Iron Maiden cover, which was so abominable, I still have problems taking them for serious.

i love Toxic Voodoo as well. it's a fantastic & much heavier album. Within The Veil was just more powerful to me.
as for the search feature, nothing wrong with bringing it up once in a repetitive thread.

I like the sound and may get an album from them in the future. My only concern was lyrical content, but I researced and looked at the lyrics to all their songs and while I can sense SOME anti-Christian vibes, they are so obscure and hidden by the sheer poetic nature of the lyrics that I can EASILY overlook it.

This album is definitely a classic! I finally snagged a copy of this on cd last year from Sentinel Steel. I was so glad I had found it.

Listened to Toxic Voodoo last night again and concur that it is good and much heavier (sort of a death/thrash). My only problem with it was I was expecting something darker and more melodic like Within The Veil which is probably why I was dissapointed in it upon first listen but now I hear why others like it.

Yeah, they seem to try to be more scary than anti-Christian. Unlike Skinning The Christians, a band that tried befriend me on MySpace today. Haha. Who comes up with this crap? Even if I were into Satan, Skinning The Christians is just stupid on all levels! Haha.
