I can make a very dubios connection between Iron Maiden and Overkill, namely Dan Spitz. Dan Spitz used to be in Overkill, long before they got signed, and before he joined Anthrax. And Dan Spitz also did this band/project together with Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden, called 70X7, which never got off the ground at all. So the band you are looking for would be Anthrax!

You have the rght Idea but No that is not the answer I have in my mind, what you say is true so I guess there is 2 possible answers but mine is an easier link.

The answer may be Jethro Tull, as both Maiden and Overkill have done covers of them.
