Six Feet Under is one of those bands most people seem to hate, but I dig their simple, old school, death metal sound.

Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity

Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients
Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind

When I look at my CD collection it seems I love death metal more than I realize but seven albums define the genre for me:

Monstrosity - Imperial Doom
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Deicide - Deicide
Obituary - Cause of Death
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
Possessed - Seven Churches

In my opinion, Akercocke is the best "new" death metal band out there, but their music is truly a love 'em or hate 'em kind of sound. Plus their dapper satanic look is just comical.

Really? I have their CD just before this one and it's sort of a mixture of metalcore with some death metal leanings. Is Paranormal Ichthyology more on the death metal side of the spectrum? Are the vocals better than the EP?

I haven't heard the Dagon Ep but this new one is simply fantastic and I hear a mixture of Death Metal w/ traditional metal leanings. HOWEVER, I've historically been poor at nailing down genres......

No matter what, I'd say you should pick it up. I'd be surprised if you didn't like it....

In all honesty Death is the only one I've ever really liked.

Hey T-Roy, check out Metanoia if you get the chance as well. I'm sure you will dig them. Very low, gutter growls. My favorite of their three is "In Darkness of In Light".

I also wish they would release all the demos on CD. They released several great demos before finally getting a contract with Rowe. Some of the demo material is great. "Ripped In Two"!

wow that is a shock, i didn't think you'd even know who Metanoia was. i second the recommendation. i have Don't Walk Dead & Time To Die. both are extremely brutal christian death metal albums.

I love the tipical ENTOMBED, UNLEASHED, GRAVE, MORBID ANGEL, MALEVOLENT CREATION, NECROPHOBIC, BOLT THROWER, MERCILESS, MORTIFICATION etc...but also more underground stuff like the old band NIHILIST, REPUGNANT, PENTACLE, HEADHUNTER DC, GROTESQUE, etc...
