Anyone else dig the King of Surf guitar?

I got to see him play for free at the Route 66 festival here in Southern California a couple months ago. It was a lot of fun. He played his better known instrumental stuff, along with some classic Animals and Johnny Cash covers. He brought out his 13 year old son for some killer twin surf guitar attack (man is his kid good). Dick also showed his chops on the drums and the trumpet, along with doing some cool percussion on a bass guitar with a drum stick.

Great show, if you get the chance to go see him you will not be sorry. Got to meet him afterwards and he was one of the friendliest and nicest people I've ever met.

My dad had allot of "surf music" on vinyl, and Dick Dale was top of the heap, so yea, I've been listening to him for years. The Ventures were right up there too.

Dick Dale is awesome. Such a great tone and feel to his playing. It's amazing that something as simple as an instrumental can inspire such a feeling of hanging 10 off the coast of Hawaii. I remember Scott Ian giving him and other surf guitarists allot of credit for their picking/sweeping style later used in thrash. He's also done a cool version of "Pipeline" with Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Im not a huge fan of that style but I dig his work cuz he's basically the best at it.
