Personal Preference: Bay Area or Euro Thrash?

Which "type" (for lack of a better word) of thrash metal from the eighties do you prefer?


Bay Area Thrash

(Exodus, Death Angel, Vio-lence, Forbidden, etc, etc.)

or

European Thrash

(Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Coroner, etc, etc)



This is a hard question. But just on first instinct, I would have to choose European Thrash based on my opinion that it seems more metallic and dark.

Some of my favorite scenes from back in the day (when the different territories actually had some special vibe, sound, unlike today):

USA - especially Bay Area sound
Australia - Hobbs AOD, Renegade, ..
North Europe - Scandinavia + Finalnd in early 90s - stuff like Omnitron, Airdash, Stone, ..
East European scene from late 80s / early 90s - especially Poland / Czech Republic - Hellias, Ferat, etc.


And some that I don't like that much:

Japan
Italy
South America

Bay Area is my fave,but its all good.Italian Thrash is starting to become one of my faves too with bands like Hyades and Ancestral.

American metal! I like the Bay Area stuff, but also East Coast bands like Nuclear Assault, Anthrax, etc. Love the European stuff as well. I like it all!

Absolutely nothing compares to the "Bay Area" explosion...

As much as I love the Bay Area stuff (Forbidden and Exodus are among my favorite bands), I'd have to give the slight nod to the German scene.

Simply because my two favorite thrash bands of all time are Kreator and Sodom.

I love all thrash though - no matter where it's from.

I like European thrash a little bit more than Bay Area thrash.

Bay Area, hands down. I like some Euro thrash as well, but some of my favorite bands are Bay Area.

I prefer Bay Area but as many have stated it's all good!

I've always been a Bay Area guy... I like a lot of Euro-thrash as well, and LOVE Kreator and Sodom, but with Testament at the top of the thrash heap for me, I guess Bay Area is the logical choice.

Cannot determine... as sheer numbers it got to be Europe, but bands like FORBIDDEN and ANACRUSIS are very high on my list

I like almost all thrash equally so I can't really choose, it all depends on the quality of the music.

the east coast scene was cool as well as bay area
