Dude, I was working for K-Mart when that movie came out. I don't think I have ever laughed THAT loud when I saw that scene in the theater! "Duuuuuude! Ash is one of US!"

Well the grocery store gig looks like a done deal. Went for the initial how-do-you-do interview @ noon today, then they called me back for a 2nd interview around 5:30 tonight! (that was quick...) The overall vibe was much better than the last interview I went on. Seems like a good bunch of people.
Since I tend to do better as a "behind the scenes" guy, I told them I'd be most interested in working in stock/receiving. Y'know, unloading the shit off the truck, bringing it out onto the floor, getting shit up on the shelves, moving displays around, etc. - I've had lots of practice with that recently @ Spirit. So they penciled me in as a "floater" for the grocery/dairy dept's.
As long as I clear a background check (which shouldn't be a problem, as I haven't killed anyone lately) I should be good to go.
The $$ is a few bucks less per hour than I was making at the paper, but a few bucks more than at Spirit. So it may not end up being a permanent solution but for the short term, I'll do my best to make it work.
Meanwhile, over at my former employer, Gannett (I know I said earlier in this thread that I didn't want to name them, but y'know what? Fuck 'em, hah) they announced today that the company president has tendered her resignation and will be leaving at the end of the year.
Geez, it's like watching Rome burn.

As far as Gannett (New Media) goes.... Serves em right for selling out and kickin real journalism to the curb. Perfect example of private equity finding useful idiots to facilitate a perception with tons of cash out the gate and leaving it high n dry when no longer needed.
And Keith.... Do not wear head phones while unloading stuff :lmao:I Kewl ya found something!

It was a reference to “It”. You know… Pennywise?
Are you just making sure everyone knows what the other meaning is?

I don’t know, the way FF was describing how he wants to be the guy that moves “shit” unloads “shit” and puts “shit” away, I think bathroom humor is definitely the way to go here.

And to go even further down the rabbit hole… the word “shit” is only two letters from the word “It” (which was the butt of my joke). Pun intended.

Lighten up people!
The word “floater” was just too funny to pass up.

Well, this thread certainly went sideways while I was gone
Have not heard about a start date from the grocery store yet - but when I stopped in there last night to check the place out (their "soft opening" was yesterday, their big deal Grand Opening is set for next Fri.) I saw the guy who interviewed me, and he said "see you soon," so I guess I'm in.

I am quite confident that Keith isn't thin-skinned in the very least.

So are you saying he’s thick skinned (or just big boned)?
Stop baiting me James.

I am both thick skinned and thick headed.
And also big boned. (as in, I ain't never heard no ladies complain... )
...and for the record, every time I hear the term "floater" I think of this Austin Powers bit:

Maybe it was the combo of his screen-name and your describing him as not thin skinned…
You know those movies where the mom of a big kid says: tell them you’re big boned.

What kind of humor do they have in rural Montana? I assume Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy.
… and Larry’s whole routine is toilet humor.
No worries James. I know you’re born and raised in California.

This thread is still sideways, I see
Not much to update: grocery store still hasn't called me back about a start date, which has me somewhat worried. I'm like "how long does it take to complete a background check?"
... and to add insult to injury, my car decided to start having transmission trouble last night (thankfully I was only about 100 feet from my driveway when it hit), so I have no reverse gear. I'm waiting to call the Ford dealer at 9 AM when they open, cuz after some Googling it sounds like the problem may fall under a recall for my particular vehicle that I knew nothing about.
Sooooo yea, my week is off to a GREAT start. Pffft.

Sideways is a good movie!
Sorry to hear about the new issues.
If you didn’t like my joke, my apologies. But as far as the rest goes… if someone mentions your name it’s common to respond. James thought my joke was too immature.
